I just started this game tonight. I chose Providence when I placed my homestead, but I haven't seen any other players so far. Where do you go to find others?

If you stand near your homestead, you can use the '...to Providence' action in the Adventure menu. There's also one for going home again. I suggest putting both on your hotbar.

Providence is relatively safe, but be careful meeting people in the wild, this game is open PvP and they may kill you.

They are off to the Expedition as of now. and most have stuff to do and won't hang out afk, as in this game afk= death.
So you can head to the trading forum to add people's hearth secret, then you can see they are online all the time.

You can find many people in Providence which is a central hubs of sorts, it's not as full as it used to be due to diseases, witches, and other annoyances that can occur in the semi "safe zone", you will also not want to look for other players out in the wild or settle near any established towns/ big pclaims as many people aren't very welcoming to random leantos, and players.
