I call it petty, you hooked up that my article is in the wrong department. Game developers will not turn their heads to innovation when play 30 people around the world. And the new players give up play after a month or so time. But ok good luck in mental toughness. I may be expecting too much from a bunch of kids.

I believe you are missing the point of the game.
Its supposed to be cruel, unforgiving and full of traitors and looters. Problem is the currents system that the game works. It needs a lot of improvements , playerbase had many suggestions but no one cares.
Ofcourse the game has less and less people when nothing changes for the better. Yeah, we get new mechanics but honestly they are trash. It is way better to polish the game instead of working on 'new mechanics' that will be probably half done **** anyway.

Cept the game isn't dying at all. The pop really hasn't changed in the last year or two. Check the server stats.

Keep in mind that there have been many changes which promoted utilizing alts and such, therefore the true meaning behind these numbers is an indication at best.

Graph, of the start to current playerbase under Mortal Moments development. (not entirely accuracte with the timeline):

Allas to add some more perspective into these numbers: here we are in 2013, march:

Here we are in 2014, january a few months prior to the server wipe:

Here we are in 2014, march Providence has just gotten added, server wipe:

Here we are a couple months into Mortal Moments heavy development, October 2014.

Here we are in december, final month of 2014:

The conclusion

With the take-over from Mortal Moments, the game has gotten a small boost. For the long run this boost was very important, nevertheless regarding the active playerbase the boost was small at best. The peak was most certainly during the release of Popham, it was however a temporary boost and quickly after that the numbers dropped back to take-over days and since then they slowely have dropped below those numbers. Currently the activity is rather solid, declining slightly without additional content. We might even be at an all-time low, even worse than prior server wipe.

It's relatively easy to bring new players to the game depending on how much advertisement they are willing to do, but without active updates or just general dev activity on the forum people will see it as a dead game.

Most updates have been insanely negative or introduced mechanics that have made the game more annoying as apose to fun. To many nerfs in the wrong areas. Sadly the only updates I want are retroactive ones. People whom I have tried to get into the game absolutely hate the requirement of mass alts, and sadly the game has become a game of alts.

There are plenty of people in the world that are into hardcore survival and perma death, so developing the game away from that is nonsense. Updates should be directed in areas that expand on areas that players enjoy. For example if you have carebears that love to play Salem like Farmville, give them the ability to build customize homes, more advanced crops that actually have a reason to grow, build statues that give bonus to the villiage and esc. If there is a strong player base that loves pvp make updates revolving that. Like the cannabolism mechanic is awesome, bring that to providence. Increase the gravity of death by shifting away from the need of countless throw away alts. There should be high risk for crime and pvp but NOT assured death for leaving a theft scent and up. Quality of life updates? Make tasks like terraforming, sifting and other chore tasks quicker. This is how you make the player base happy and having fun.

Also a " Hey player base. I have not been able to work on this game as much as i would like. I hope you guys can tuff it out for a while until i get back at it" from JC would give this game a boost.

Come on man!! You would think he would at least have time to pull that off.

theres alot of stuff that drags players away

broken combat mechanics
madness
freezing to block

no active developing

advertising will do nothing to that if the games broken.
