Was the guy in fisherman with priestly stole an alt or something that someone was using while fighting with other? Because if you watch the video again and focus on his actions, you will see that he used both gadgets and his skill to stomp and thrust and even abandoned 2vs1.

Is his his role actually to distract the opposite fighters?

Overall I got the impression that the defending part was not prepared for a fight of such calibre if any at all.

Combat is a major part of the game, at least it is supposed to be, the fact is that majority of the community ( you and the other set of care-bears) play the game wrong. Though it's not completely your fault since the devs gives you all the incentive to play the game like you currently are.
