The Providence Post Newspaper Needs YOU!

The Providence Post will be a forum newspaper dedicated to gathering, cataloguing and presenting information pertaining to Salem in an entertaining and/or funny way, as well as with a bit of roleplay and dramatic flair behind it. Here's an example of what it'll look like. Please mind the grammatical and typos errors XD. The actual newspaper will be checked over.

As you can see, it looks kind of sort of like an old-timey newspaper. I plan on making this a weekly or biweekly thing, but I don't plan on doing it all myself. I don't have the time or patience for that and it simply wouldn't be as fun. Therefore, I'm gonna make it so anyone can contribute to this baby. In fact, it's encouraged. To do so, all you need to do is hone your writing skills and write an article, opinion column, or advertisement for me and then PM it in. This doesn't mean you'll automatically make it in, but so long as you follow the rules and make it somewhat funny or entertaining, I'll try my best to include it :). I'm going to try to get the first paper out this Wednesday, and if I get enough articles I'll post another come next Sunday. If not, the second paper will be posted next Wednesday.

Ze Rules, Guidelines and Notes:

1. Articles should be as neutral as possible when it comes to other players/factions/ext. I won't be too strict on this but try to keep bias and open attacks to yourself. Naturally, for the opinion column you don't have to follow this rule whatsoever ¦] . Feel free to be an ******* all you like there.

2. You don't have to be ultra-serious or historically accurate in your articles, but try to keep things fairly down-to-Earth and relating to the setting (not historical setting, game setting). When using forum or user names to identify people, give them a nickname that a real person may have. Silent Bob would be a good example, but DarkLordtheFlander234 would not be. You could abbreviate that to D.L. Flander. Try to come up with setting-fitting names and allegories for things that obviously wouldn't be there. For instance, for forums you could put 'the town forum' and stuff like that. Yes, you can reference our community's made-up religious that wouldn't necessarily be in the time period (Deer Jesus, Franklin, Carvirism) and stuff like that. I want this to be fun. You can even reference game updates if you can come up with a decent metaphor. For instance, the Providence quick travel cooldown boost is referenced as 'weather makes travel harder' in the example. Just take a look at the examples in the concept image above and you'll get the idea. Because this rule is so vague, I'm not gonna deny articles if it's broken, but expect things that won't fit to be edited slightly.

3. Try to keep grammar somewhat decent. I wouldn't mind editing articles a little for errors but if it's absolutely terrible I probably won't bother. Of course, this doesn't really matter in the opinion column or ads as much. It's not like I don't make spelling mistakes (there's plenty in the example above, hehe).

4. Advertisements can be for villages, stalls, sales, bounty hunter services, w/e, so long as it's advertising something.

5. Articles can be as long as you want, but if it comes down to me choosing to put in a bigass decent article over two better smaller ones, it's obvious what I'm going to choose. My recommendation would be to limit it around 500 words. However, if it turns out I'm not giving people enough room I'll consider making the paper four pages long instead of three.

6. Feel free to send pictures. However, make sure they don't need to be enlarged to a crazy size for people to get their meaning. In keeping with rule two, try not to include pics that'll feel totally out-of-setting. The best thing possible would be in-game images (which I was too lazy to include lololol).

7. Follow the censor rules of the forums. However, censoring your own words with a **** or !@#%$ is fine.

8. PM me the articles. Please don't post em' here. It'll make the newspaper less exciting when it's actually posted.

9. Articles don't necessarily have to be about things that have happened in-game, just make sure it fits with the lore of Salem :).

10. Above all else, make your article entertaining and/or funny. Best way to know if you're doing that is if you're having fun yourself writing it. That'll be the determination as to whether an article gets put in over someone else's if I run out of room.

If you have any questions please post em' here. I'll make an FAQ eventually if this becomes popular :).

*UPDATE*

Planning on adding a rumors section due to a request sent in a PM, as well as an obituary section. Feel free to send in reports of a character's death, even if you're the murderer :).
