I wonder which of the devs put the corpses into/under one of the house...
One of those dissease alts kinned me some good long time ago, and since a while I see his name in one of the buildings. ^^

Instead of "disposing" them in such a way, why not simply delete those corpses on a regular basis?
You could have an automated script that deletes all corpses placed in the cemetary area in town each sunday at a certain time, maybe after/during the sunday church mass, could be locally announced by an npc there...
This would ofc open up an option to completely dispose a body out of the game which is by legit means not possible iirc, but i would still say it's a good thing.
Whoever invests the work to get his ancestors corpse to town this way, should be allowed to assure him resting in peace.

I thought town was supposed to be safe. Why were there so many dead bodies? And thank you for removing them one got me sick a few days ago I think.

Comparatively safe. People can't attack you at will, although they are free to bait animals into aggro radius, intentionally be a plague carrier, shove you, and even viciously tickle you to reduce their insanity at the expense of your sanity. (Can be stopped easily, but if you are afk... etc.)

One of the reasons people "die" there a lot is that's just the final humiliation for a character that's been kicked off a claim or lean-to, and left to slowly go insane and die, or succumb to disease to the same effect. The game boots you to somewhere in Providence, and if it doesn't happen by accident, people will gleefully speed it up.

Although, just standing around long enough will get a character with passive insanity gain.

Then people loot and scalp the corpse, and it probably lies in the streets for weeks unless it's in the way then it gets moved out of the way, etc.

I think it would be cool power system bury the bodies "pauper" to clean the city, not have to win anything in return, just for cleaning the city.

Wait what kicked off a claim? Cant they just go make another? What if they just log out?

If you log in and find you don't have a homestead because your leanto got destroyed or something, you can make another. Some end up dead it town though because they might have a fit and give up, or they don't care because the character was small. If you log out without a homestead, your character can't leave the game and will stand there and die of madness. Sometimes disease or tickling if standing in town.

Yeah, like she says. And it would really only happen if you let the claim run completely out of silver anyway, or if someone eminent domained you with a town claim, which is pretty expensive. On the other hand a lot of established towns are really wealthy.

You can always start over though, yeah.

What REALLY gets you in terms of madness and disease is getting stocked, and not preparing for the eventuality properly. This leads to you dying like a ***** because you go insane/catch a horrid disease and can't treat it.

While Crime Can Pay, there is a calculation there. You have to do it smartly, and a lot of petty crime simply isn't worth it. Crime will probably be more Worth It with subsequent updates and stuff like Lockpicking. (A feature in some other, mean spirited PVP oriented games. Although it's highly specialized in them, of course. Which isn't unfair because it lets you steal really, really valuable stuff given the opportunity.)

Which would not work in Salem, because if there were lockpicking, people would build makeshift fences in front of their doors, costs a branch to replace, and just a few seconds to "open", pass through and "close" it behind you.
Which means you need to commit waste (and put up a TbF in case of a town) before you "could" even try lockpicking.

But it would still be useful to lock pick locked iron chests.
