Crash report

Postby loftar » Thu Sep 13, 2012 4:35 pm

Just to let you know, today's crash happened because the (physical) server mysteriously crashed, according to our hoster. Apparently, they still don't know what went wrong.

Either way, the consequences shouldn't be any worse than any "ordinary" rollback (which, thankfully, are also rather rare these days). Some of you Hearthlings may know this as the kind of event that nuked many map areas in Haven, but thanks to the auto-backup function I added after the last such event, that was avoided now.

When did we rollback to? Last server downtime?
I never managed to figure out something clever for my signature on Paradoxplaza, and I doubt I'll do it here either.

The various parts of the saved state rolls back to when it was last saved, which differs from various parts of the state. Characters are usually saved when they log out, and at various other times such as when they learn a new skill and such things; maps are saved either whenever they unload from disuse, or once every ~2 hours, but not simultaneously.

Ordinarily, yes, but thanks to what effectively amounts to a bug, almost all items are currently "unnecessarily" flagged as unique, which means their duplication is effectively prevented. :)

Hmm I traded 14kg of flour just before crash and now I don't have it... well that is normal after rollback, but strange thing is that guy who traded with me doesn't have it neither.

You aren't supposed to be this nice. It makes me suspect you're up to something. ^^

Indeed, that's because (as I wrote further up) the various parts of the map are saved at different times.

did he recently create the flour? in which case does he have the cereal it came from instead? or an unharvested field etc.?
Yes, I'm new; no, I didn't play Haven; but yes, I do get it :p
