Beds can be leanto in house?
Not sure if you implemented it so that seeing darkness creatures don't affect witches but it shouldn't since they already lost loads of humanity.
i think sitting should decrease insanity, i mean what is more chilling in the world than taking a break from your hard working day? I know this was implemented to prevent afking. Not sure how will you implement it maybe only inside churches :)

any thing on village claim that gains insanity is reduced... such as digging on village claim and finding lost colony.
add darkness mobs that are friendly that reduce insanity
pickup up inspirationals and/or flowers and searching stumps/logs
praying in a church/being in a church/on church aura
add necklaces and/or rings(new slot(S)) that reduce normal gain
wearing gear with bonuses.... such as rummaging set... the higher the bonuses you have on your char the less drain
skills you can unlock.... a skill that costs about as much as lucky that can fully nullify insanity gain would be ***** great.
finding some thing super rare should fully reset to 0... like a fertile turkey, whispering snake skull or mysterious lilly pad.
some thing craftable that has (X) amount of charges that can be studied to reduce insanity... having some skill values would be great to.
adding cats/dogs we can pet
standing near a fire
a rocking chair in house
a statue of JC in town that we can whip and throw tomatoes/rotten fruit at.

Well with my base design, if you can get to my leanto, you can get inside my personal brick house and all my defenses have been disabled.

Seems legit and only logical next stage of advancement. I want more space on my personal claim.

You should implement a system like HnH where we set and prepare a table. Better quality wood, metal and cloth tableware will reduce insanity when you sit down to rest and have a snack on the table.

Add in beds. You don't use them as a leanto but you lay down in them or laydown and log out.

Crafting Crucifix should decrease insanity.
PVP should increase insanity, the more murders you have on you, the less insanity you get from PVP?
Gardening should decrease insanity.
More Frontier and Wilderness should decrease insanity from darkness mobs

Drinking tea must removes a small amount of insanity.
And eating food from "Advanced Cooking" from table removes insanity.

Update:
Being online when a Blood Moon occurs now adds a TREMENDOUS amount of insanity.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
