Strategies in games evolve around the mechanics the game designers implement. There are always tears when changes are made (see Darwoth's post above), but the smart people adapt.

I can certainly see why you wouldn't want it too short of a time. People could, in theory, have their homestead just outside of a combat area, release, heal up, and come back in and fight if it's too short. 15 minutes may be too short, but it seemed like a nice number, but I think 3 hours is still way too long. Nobody needs to be pinned down that long.
