Will this still require the criminal skill, Larceny?

I do not quite understand this. Seems to me the options are, Get summoned and fight at the trial, or run and get summoned and fight at the trial. As I see it there is 1 option, get summoned and fight at the trial.

Also, I am concerned that without some kind of invulnerability for a few seconds when summoned, as the criminal loads in they will not have to time react to the mob of players waiting for them. When there is a lot going on it can take a good 10-20 seconds for an older machine to load up the game. What stops the mob from taking advantage of this time the criminal is waiting for loading..

Well time to throw all my nice things into the river. Wish I could say this has been nothing but fun.

Agreed. There are those that live to grief, cause trouble, and generally murder. Nothing I do will stop them and their dedication to 'play the bad guy' is resilient enough to withstand way more punishment than this patch is dishing out. I completely respect that there is also another casual group of players who generally wish to commit crimes and ruin others peoples day WITHOUT putting together the massive commitment that it would take to stay 'invincible'. Those players were playing a broken system in my opinion and unfortunately will find that Salem is a Permadeath game for EVERYBODY, not just the weak and under-stat players.

Xelsol wrote:If you can't make the time, don't do the crime.

This is my new catch phrase for the system. Thanks. This is exactly the mentality. People who complain that 'living on the run' from Rangers and constantly having to change leantos, change bases, hide, or otherwise patrol their base to stop TbC satellite bases from going up, simply don't have the free time to do the crime they signed up for.

hamai wrote:1. Is it ok if I just empty them and don't delete them, since it costs to delete?

2. Some players use alts to sell stuff via the forum, do they need to be empty in order to not qualify as an alt-vault?

3. If a raider wants to splash attack and builds a wall AND claims the terrain, will the defender commit a crime by trying to destroy it?

1. You can keep alts, their stuff will just be in jeopardy.

2. You can use alts to sell things, but they shouldn't log out with inventories.

3. Technically, but there are many reasons that the defender has bad base design as this point. Pclaims can only be built so close to one another.

Agreed, sometimes porting can boston can take me 10-20 seconds of loading, I haven't timed it, maybe it isn't that long, but in a fight even 3 seconds would be plenty long enough for someone to take advantage.

tweenprinc3ss wrote:I like a lot of this in theory, however, I think the SUPER high required for the murder skill should be a lowered a bit. This new system already makes it incredibly hard to be a criminal, why not make it easier for baddies to get the skill, thus giving them the option of putting some scents out there.

The reason for the skill being so hard to get is because scalping them rewards with store credit. In effect meaning it is possible to gain real world currency from in game effort. Perhaps 350 is too high, but whatever value chosen has to be high enough.

Edit:sorry for the mistake with the quotes

Yaaaaay.

What about my earlier questions? Can I please get an answer to them.

MERRY ***** CHRISTMAS RAIDERS, AND A HAPPY DARWOTH'S TEARS DAY TO YOU ALL.

Loving the changes, JC. Looking back on all those days I argued with you about your killing noobs and wiping bases without any consequence, remembering those arguments and those dark times brings a tear to my eye. I now see that you've seen the light, and that I've won the argument even if you did make me Belethor live in a stick shack in the woods for the first time ever. You are now empowering Rangers and hunting the noob killers. God bless Tiny Tim and God bless the chief. Screw Darwoth.

Praise YGM. His Dream Shall Never Die. 'Candy' Justice Shall Prevail.

I've waited 2 years for this. If this had been in place I could have killed Darnok waaay back when I was a lone ranger.

I like the system, good work, but I have a couple of clarifying questions:

My main question is, again, for my mapper friends. What will happen if someone Pclaims over a lean to out in the world? Will that person be able to easily destroy it completely. Will the person with the destroyed lean to immediately lose everything on the ground and 'persist in the world' or will they have to log on first? The way Marp described it on the Vent was more that they would only lose everything if they LOGGED OFF with NO lean to, thus making them have to build a lean to or making sure that their old lean to was up before logging off.

My one question is, due to having my homestead set on my claimstone, will I need to set up a leanto and transfer my homestead to that instead?

Ah no. Everywhere you read "leanto" you can also read "Claimstone".

Will the possible thief need to access the claimstone itself or just any part of the claim emanating from the stone?

Lord_Avu wrote:Then what about an upgrade system, it would cost just as much as building it new but you can build a superior wall over an inferior one without having to destroy the old one.

yeah I like the idea of upgrading walls. But unfortunately it is not a priority as I don't consider the existing strategy of 'layering' walls all that broken.

Also, lower walls behind superior walls won't be completely destroyed by splash, right? It's still just a percent of the wall. It won't crumble completely if the superior wall is destroyed in front of it? Or is that changing also?

JohnCarver wrote:
agentlemanloser wrote:Scavengers are thus by definition criminals, yes? One would need to claim the cracked base in all cases to protect the scents left in the taking of the base?

Sure. To 'scavenge' without being a criminal you would have to scavenge from bases that have no claims at all. Which would mean bases another player has already 'raided'. inactive or not.

Will unclaimed walls/building/storage still decay completely? Couldn't a scavanger just wait for a wall to decay and crumble then rush in and destroy the claimstone and then scavenge in peace? I like the new system overall, I'm just wondering about any wall decay changes.

They would have all their stuff thrown around the ground the minute the leanto is popped. I think the real question is why anybody would bother popping a leanto when they could just do the l3wt option on it and take all their stuff anyway.

Leaving a leanto, unguarded, in the wild, is putting your items at risk.

--Alt Vaulting--
This has been discussed at length. Everything in Salem, must remain in Salem for other Salemites to take, steal, enjoy, and covet. Leantos are much harder to destroy and do not decay. Players may right click 'lewt' from a leanto. The act of 'looking' triggers no crime and no scent, thus players do not have to worry about committing crimes to see if a player is in fact worth stealing from. Actually stealing from the player who is 'asleep'/loggedoff in their leanto will in fact trigger a scent. Players without leantos will persist in the world and cannot log off. Players who have their leantos destroyed when they are logged off will find their items will loot pinata on the ground. I have something special planned for the 'existing' alt-vaults that refuse to listen to my warnings to knock it off as well.

What about players who use a claimstone as there homestead ?

will we persist in the world?

The Thief needs direct access to the Claimstone itself.

I already believe a lower wall behind a bigger wall has a chance to fully destroy due to the lower wall having lower hit points.

No. Decay will only happen on totally unclaimed land. No longer does it effect claims, even if they are not paid.

Me too

I agree, and this is intended. It was important that there was a mechanic for a lot of "back and forth" fighting that didnt' require huge investments or store investments.

Agreed. IF somebody makes a base that cannot be TbC. I'll simple increase the size of the TbC.

Would the mapper//hunter then log on and 'persist in the world' because it didn't have a lean to?

If they'd loot pinata whne their lean to is broken by being claimed over and destroyed without scent, why wouldn't the thief just do that? For 150s they'd be able to check the lean to, see a sword and metal axe and basic slotted gear and then just pop the lean to with no scent. I understand the concept and it really just means not logging off with any good gear or stuff on the mapper but it is a headache for stuff like this.
