Should we have Decay on Tools and Clothing?

Announcements of major changes to Salem.

Should Decay be implemented and how?

I think decay is a bad idea.

I like decay on tools that causes them to become less effective when they 'break' and can be repaired.

I like decay on tools that causes them to wear out as they are used and eventually disappear.

Don't want more grind on tool repairs.

And gear is already so very very very hard to make. It takes most people a whole server lifetime to get a set of perfect gear.
Dunno how Biddas managed to get his full set slotted so fast. Either he's been very, very lucky, or he's been using screenies from previous world to make us think he already has a full set.
I play quite a bit, with no lifer tendencies. So far, since server start, I have managed to slot 1 perfect gear piece (and found 1 snakeskull in all the 1000s of stumps I checked).
Decay on clothes? No, please, no.

I'm still fairly new in Salem so I have, in a sense, a privileged view on this things. I get the feeling that some of you, after playing all this time Salem in its half-baked state, eventually accepted it as it is and started to consider it immutable.
I personally consider broken the high chance of failure on slotting items. It looks like a very cheap alternative to durability to me...
Since once you manage to beat the RNG it'll last forever, I'll simply punish you for even trying by making the RNG very harsh on you.

I would very like a fairly high chance of success on slotting gear (because finding high-end artifacts is already difficult enough) and the introduction of wear and maximum durability to keep the industry alive.

Also consider the current situation, if you get a WSS and decide to slot it, you either get an inestimable piece of clothing that will last you until killed or you lose the WSS and ruin the clothing piece. There isn't much choice on your part, you are getting slapped in the face by the game and you are even tempted to say you like it.

On the other end if your chance of success was relatively high (given very high proficiencies) you would end up with the much better choice of "Do I prefer great clothing for the next N months or 1000 silver?".

...and if you failed to slot the item you could also start to think you are being cursed or something...
I was lucky...

I wasn't mad on the idea of tools breaking, however I'm now pretty much of the mind that it would be better for the game, especially like people have mentioned because it would help the in game economy.
I think I have a hat problem.

I think you are absolutely right. Thank you for reminding me how much I hate the RNG in some parts of this game.
Did Claeyt shut up yet?

Lets just add meth, an Aphex Twins cd, and change the name to "Denver" the tweakers MMO, where you spend all day raising the influence on your lab, then by night you can sit around for hours and have the overwhelming fun of repairing **** till morning. Then you can add dentures to the cash shop...AND THEY CAN BE REPAIRED!!!

omg I'm all ***** giggly now just thinking about it

well maybe not meth but i could see all kinds of fun from the addition of period correct intoxicants (and different effects for such) such as liquor, absinthe, opium, cannabis etc.

i want my character to drink absinthe and go recite poe quotes to people hes killing

^ H&H's hemp system, and a distilling/brewing system would be an excellent start. Everquest had a decent brewing skill that allowed you to make drinks for little real reason other than fun, while talking to someone drunk, a percent of the letters you typed would be misspelled based on how drunk your character was, at max level you couldn't communicate with anyone for 15 minutes or so.

yeah we used to have drunk bar fights when i was a young newb in qeynos, wasn't just the automatic slurred speech but if you remember your characters vision would get blurry as ***** and you would rock side to side faster the drunker you got

I don't feel tool wear to be grindy. Tools are rather easy to make in game and they tend to wear out in real life too.

What I am curious about and would like to see discussed is how you feel this all plays out when contrasted to fishing. Fishing poles wear out and have done so for awhile now. Do you feel this system would be horrible if implemented against other things? If so, should fishing poles have their wear removed? We are blessed by the fact that we do have at least one item already functioning in this nature and can look to that to see just how much we like or dislike that particular system.
