Fishing is still quite easy and good still, so to speak. I think people just still fail to understand it correctly.

You first need to grind youre fishing locations, to find what you want, and were to catch it from.

From there you you learn how to catch the fish, then you can basically endlessly catch them one after another.

Its just another grind system, you cannot just instantly go fish, and expect to be able to get everything easily.

i have never fished, but you saying you go to one part of river to get one type of fish, and then move etc 50 tiles away to get other, or what?

Basically yes. You will need to fish in alot of locations to find what fish's are in that location.

They also have a small roam location, like they can move upto a few tiles away etc.

Imagian them as a small pool of invisible fish, which roam around in little areas, you just need to find these areas, once done you can fish very very very effectivly once you learn the sequence for catching each fish as well. I think there is a semi complete table of what option each fish requires to catch it.

Also, different baits catch different fish.

This is a must read for any new fisher:

EDIT: Its good to also note there are 2 different kinds of water, salt water and fresh water. There could even be more sub-catogories like rivers and lakes but i am unsure.
EDIT: Deep and shallow seem to be different bodies of water as well

From reading discussions with loftar and jorb (from what I could infer safely from them), it is broken down into fresh or salt, deep or shallow, giving 4 possible combinations.

it's a bit outdated, since there are fishtraps now!
as an example you can catch red hering in fresh water with traps!
probably other fish as well that was labeled sea

But it's not as accurate or fast, not to mention the chance of trap vandalism.

I see. Though I couldn't imagine such a thing. As in, the current map system is simple enough that I hardly see anything that can be added as "simple." Like player made points? or towns indicators?
The tutorial area is not called "shipwreck island" anymore, so you don't want to go with the theme? I love that theme, you travel across the sea to get to America. :(
