Who usually ends up in these groups? Those who think similar to the devs and can help point out flaws in logic or game mechanics (not Yes Men), those who are pillars of the community in one form or another, or those who are really good at hunting down bugs. Other people get in for other reasons, too, but I think that hits the major three. (I will note that major games tend to be mostly bug hunters and such, but valued community members can be invited in, usually under a strong NDA.)
