On a more serious note. I don't see how you can possibly claim that raiding is not overpowered without looking ridiculous. Go on, write an essay, because the vast majority doesn't believe you. Straight up defences are so underpowered people have been trying to use "tricks" the whole time to make their bases more defensible. The raider has too many advantages compared to those of the defender.

Jalpha have you raided anything with more than 5 braziers? Defense is seriously way overpowered at its current state. People who don't actively raid really don't have a clue. Also how is raiding someone overpowered? Again if you don't raid you do not understand how boring raiding someone is. It takes hours and hours raiding even the simplest of bases with few amounts of braziers.

Tell me how does how does a raider have an advantage over a defender? If they spent time working on their defenses they should be in the clear advantage no questions. They take a lot less risk while defending compared to someone attacking. They have the clear advantage.

This is not a good thing to say as the opening for a post where you claim...

Etherdrifter wrote:Actually the increase is almost arithmetic, so each point of phlegm is equally useful (within values obtainable by players).

The square root function is not arithmetic, nor is it almost arithmetic. It has diminishing returns, which can be seen clearly in the previous graph. Claiming otherwise is "bad mathematics."

Etherdrifter wrote:It is worth noting that such sequences do not converge (at least without very large numbers).

Such sequences do not converge, because such sequences are square root functions. Which do not converge.

Etherdrifter wrote:x , d/dx, damage

100, 0.158, 31.623
200, 0.112, 44.721
300, 0.091, 54.772
400, 0.079, 63.246
4000, 0.025, 200
So a titan with 400 stats is doing double damage to walls than a player with 100 stats. Every extra 100 is adding roughly 1/3. The second order derivative is a very small number indeed above 100. So the real picture is geometric for a number below 100, and almost arithmetic above.

A less... selective... set of datapoints than what you use in the chart disproves your claim about every extra 100 adding roughly 1/3. If you take into account increasing costs to gluttony each point, the diminishing returns become more stark:

The above chart does not take into account the loss in gluttony progress, which becomes more and more costly as you gluttony for higher values.

Faithfully,

-Paul the Paymaster

A quick note since you evidently don't understand the notion of "bad mathematics". In your case it is attempting to mislead people into thinking that every extra point of phlegm carries a noticeable diminishing return.

2-4 points less per 100 in a stat is actually extremely minor.

The sin function is also not linear, however we often approximate it as such within a certain range. I suggest, starting from the data values over 100 and less than 500, you do as I do and draw a line of best fit on your graph. You'll notice how remarkably close the linear line is to the actual graph.

My "selective" use of data also holds more weight than your own, namely because at least 99% of the player base has humours less than 500. Those with a greater value I have excluded since the majority of the playerbase is never going to reach those numbers and those that do have done so abusing mechanics. I also, in a later post, clearly admit that up to 100 it is geometric in character, but over 100 it is ALMOST arithmetic. At no point do I claim it is arithmetic.

In future please get your facts right and attempt to avoid spinning ;)

You should leave the HoB silliness to HoB. The reason no one will assault your "vault" has nothing to do with the overpowered nature of defense. Quite the opposite. Because if they were to attack your vault, they would leave scents which the Tribe will follow back to wherever they try to hide and end them. Because defense is "weak". And from there come several other obvious corollaries and ramifications. If you're going to debate in an announcement thread, at least debate in good faith.

The point here is that the Tribe has left many many scents and is not afraid, because they know that properly laid and defended bases are, in fact, unassailable. The announcements threads lately all seem to turn to complaints that raiding is OP for the attackers, but the ones arguing that are the ones who haven't actually tried to raid anyone in a long time. If anyone was determined enough that they actually built a Good, Defended, Live base, and practiced their combat as much as the tribe does, they'd be able to challenge the tribe's power.

No, as I stated already, it's not because the Tribe's bases are so "unassailable". The decision matrix doesn't get that far. It's because anyone who leaves a scent fighting the Tribe is dead. The Tribe has far more resources than anyone else on the server to recreate lost characters, and far more active members to call upon for raiding or defending. No one even makes the attempt, and thus this fact does not constitute proof. Put another way, An absence of evidence is evidence of nothing.

Well when the raider has 400-1000 humors I would think a few blazers wont cause too much trouble in that short amount of time as they'd be knocking down walls like dominos. But yeah, for somebody who didn't get to **** out easy 100% purity food, and don't have god chars, I guess raiding would be difficult.

The devs should really cap the amount of damage a person can do per swing. That would be the first step in solving this gross imbalance.

Idk if the 1000 humors is true or not, but I heard some people in the tribe have it that high.

Could you start shutting the ***** up about 'easy 100% food' which never existed, clueless whiner

/annoyed

EDIT: I am sorry for losing my temper, and calling you a clueless whiner.
But nearly every post you make, you are making it seem there was no effort involved in getting 100% pure crops.
Every time you imply that, you smack those people in the face, who spent 5-6 months grinding their arses off, to get to that purity.
Every post you makes, shows you obviously have not even bothered trying out the new system, or put some effort into acquiring some good boards or whatever.
Yet you tread on other people's efforts like a drunk elephant.
Every post you makes, breathes so much negativity.
I'd say that damages the game more than whatever imperfect mechanics are an issue now.
If I were a new player, browsing the announcement thread to get a feel for what this game is like, your posts might even hold me back from trying the game, since you make it sound like new players can't have fun.
While they can. If you can't have fun in the game in it's current form, then maybe you should look for another game.
Did Claeyt shut up yet?

100% food existed. Easy 100% food did not.
Are you trying to say that getting cabbage from 0 to 100% was easy?

The initial grind no, but even that was fairly easy compared to now. 100% cabbage leaves could be overflowing from your containers pre purity.
