The 600% upkeep looks like a bug from what i've read before, so maybe there's need of some time to balance it. It is.. quite drastic and tragic for the few time crows have been implemented.
(Alert: Flame is saying random things)
So crows are wild beast that need punishment, just like rabbits :D.

Do you plan to add some other interaction with them, as hunting and crafting recipes?
Oh. On a side note, i like how the Crow Hops. ;D it is correct and they have that creepy attitude of lower the neck. Damn them...

I heard rumors you use to make Haven comics. So I think the real question is where is my Salem Comics?

Also. After investigating it further is it not the case that when you plant a field that has been up kept to 600% by a crow it still requires the astronomical upkeep of both humus and seeds to plant it but then changes upkeep to 100% at that point? If so, I think that is reasonable. The intention was not that you could not fertilize this thing back to a reasonable amount. The intent was that it would just ruin the 'next' planting you would do on it and you would have to lower the upkeep back from 100% to whatever your upkeep floor is.

That is what happened, however...

What about the fact that after a crow ate my cotton field, I was not able to plant cabbage or cereal seeds? I was only allowed to do cotton again. For complete factual statements, consider I was not able to try other types of seeds.

Did you not have enough of those types of seeds? Different fields take different amount of seeds. 600% of one type of field is not the same seed requirement as 600% to another.

Crows should "attack" the scarecrows, thus causing the crow to despawn. *Crows are lured to the scarecrows when in range of the scarecrow then despawn on contact, reducing the durability of the scarecrow*

Now with reguards to the pay to protect element, make cash shop scarecrows durability be infinate and never break.

Then introduce multipul tiers of scarecrows that soak up different amounts of crow attacks.

They have a smaller radius than the cash shop scarecrow.
Very crude scarecrows, taking only 1-2 crow hits, very easy to produce made from hay, rags and sharp sticks.
upto the most elaborate taking 6-8 hits made from sea island cloth, Hay, poles and some thread.

You cannot overlap / stack scarecrows.

Pay for convenience?

Is it not already the simple convenience of not having to chase off a crow in the first place?

As some one pointed out, if your fields are in view of people from the outside, a person simply walking past your claim can spawn a crow and wreck your whole fields unintentionally.

Oh ****, im forgetting the tears.

¦] ¦]

Just tossing in my 2 cent, on how non cash shop alternatives could work.

EDIT: As i said, its the tear factor, the player made version just offer some protection from 3rd partys, will also force you to rebuild them on a regular basis. Still.

the least desirable consequence of this is having to log in frequently to protect farms, players can't take a brake and burnout faster, which goes against what Providence was going for since expeditions... hoping the regular scarecrow is good
