Instead, we have temporarily given you a way to blaze from Point A to Point B. Later down the road, once we can determine what the final healthy population of Salem may be, we can re-evaluate the issue of a map that takes 20+ hours to run across. As it is currently, a Waste Claim could go active faster than you could conceivably get to your friends town to defend it. This was unacceptable. True real and final implementation of Horses will actually be in the Animal Husbandry patch. Until then, enjoy them.[/i]
Changes are welcome of course but I would like to point out that a very large map has a positive effect, only. ( at least for me )
- the feeling of vastness is awesome. It is one of the main reasons I like salem . It was also what settlers really faced, isn't it ?
I like that I can walk and discover so many places that are not congested by players ( unlike so many other games where you can literally memorize the map after some time )
- It gives weaker players better chances to hide themselves or find a good place to settle, and generally more freedom of movement.
- It also gives predators and hardcores a better challenge ( to discover them ) and probably make them think of clever ways rather than simply scan a small map.
- You could test having a smaller map on a new server made for that exactly ( since "there are numerous issues wiping the map or unloading sections" ) this would also give the option for player to choose between them ( I imagine smaller map is more PvP ).
I am a new player and cannot have a spherical view of all the pros and cons of shrinking the map. But I do not think is good. I would like to see of course more aspects on this matter.
