Even if you have to go a little over to Feb Its hardly a big deal. This is clearly going to be a huge update what with the UI, mining and other goodies. I would much rather wait for you to have everything sorted and for us to finally have a fun and balenced mining system to play with - its not like we dont have lots of other toys to play with at the moment :D

It's not the quantity, it is the quality.

That's actually a good question, I have not seen an answer yet, and I read a lot of stuff here lately.

Unless something has changed in the patch then the way I understand it is that all current mines will be unaffected and unchanged. However that also means they will not be updated to the new (and with luck more fun) mineing system and you will be stuck with the current mineing methods with non (or very few) of the new goodies. Most advice being given by the Devs is to look for a new mine but dont start building it untill the patch has dropped.

Thanks for that info! I just hoped for some more official detail.

Invalidating current mines will make a lot of people really "happy", mines are an essential part of the things you want in one place when deciding where to settle, devs could just as well raze all current settlements to zero. -.-
Someone said there might be an option to manually reset current mines someday, but I kind of doubt that.

JC has said that mines are so common that everyone should have a mine node close enough to use. While I have found this to be true I would much rather have the option to distroy my current mine and have it leave an untapped node benith it ready to re-build when the patch drops (thus avoiding anger from people with mines that are more about storage and space then metal). However I am not a coder and I dont know what changes JC has planned for the mines so I am just going to put my faith in his plan.

I think I read that as well, and I am honestly not sure if he does not understand, does not care, or is intentionally trolling with that.
There is a whole world of a difference between having a mine "in walking distance" or within your walls.

If you took a lot of scouting and preperation to find your perfect spot to settle, this likely includes a mine within your walls, taking that out, makes it a place where you would not have settled at all.
Pretty much every serious settlement i came across, had a mine within their walls, it's that simple.
And yes, many people use it as a freaking big vault, destroying/re-rolling the mine would hurt, but far not as much as starting all over again with everything.

I remember he said how it is not intended to remove existing mines as they "consume" the ore node when they are built, but it can't really be that hard to spawn a fresh ore node when destroying a mine.

When I know, you will know.

And I do not care if your town was perfectly built or centered around a mine. There are a dozen more mines within a 5 minute walk and you're in a beta.

This is last msg what JC gave about mines.

So what is the new mine update going to be? How are they going to change?
