Thats our devs, jumping from one extreme to the other.
yup confirmed, you can have a tree growing in your field witch is placed in the deep forest on a sharp slope, you can't however have a field on a perfectly flat, freshly leveled (plowed?) ground.

Can some one explain the logic here?

edit:

I remember the remains of a semi large base build some 5-6 months ago, the ground there hasn't regenerated completely even now (and nothing has been paved), since apparently not even one of the 16 tiles that make up the field can be "scared" that means if you build a base and wait half a year you can still find it impossible to plow fields. Great idea devs.

I can also add that you can put braziers on fields...
I have a rather small base and all of the free space was filled with (4x4) fields.
along the walls there were some braziers on them, and all fields survived.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Seriously, what is this crap? I mean, the bugged fields destroyed is all fine, those had it coming for a long time.
But not being able to build fields after flattening / digging?
I can only assume that this is not intentional, but a bug with the new update, especially since you can dig on farms that are already built just fine.

Oh, it's intended. That'll teach you to flatten your bases before you place fields!

You mean flatten after you place fields?

Oh, nice. 4 of my 4x4 cultivation fields are destroyed, and all high-purity seeds gone with them. Glory to the devs.

It's nice to see something has been done to the field abuse, but if it's now not possible to place fields where you're "supposed to" add them (flat land) something is terribly wrong. I too don't see the logic in this.

It's also nice to see an improvement to the walls (yet again). But with all the recent changes I'm still reluctant to improve my defences in case something is changed for the worse or reverted.

How about squeeze in a fix for the whole crop rotation issue where sometimes 3 bars are drained instead of just two when harvesting crops?

Trolling aside as far as I remember that actually is a feature. The devs never said differently only someone editing the wiki named it a bug at one point.

Hello? What is going on? I just logged in to find my claim disappeared, gates to my farm open, all braziers, fields, coal clamps and gardening pots gone. All containers disappeared or empty and someone has built a hovel in the middle of my claim.

Is this a bug? The walls are still up although with no claim I cannot lock the gates. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
