Even if they changed the entire game, you would see the same people rise up to the top for the same reason. They are inventive, industrious, and committed (to what, we're not sure yet).

This looks promising. Hopefully they nuke the server to cleanse it off the cancerous remains of the flawed, old system.

Yes. Key is to produce EVERYTHING in VERY LARGE volumes. Well maybe not leather, but everything else.

First off, to not mislead anyone, I have only been playing for about 3-4 months. Just wanted to get that out there before I went on my...

/rant begin

This post was simply about upcoming changes to a beta version of a game. There was no mention of a server wipe or any other activity that would nerf those people that have some sort of perceived lead or advantage. It was all about the changes that were possibly coming in the next year. How did it turn into an argument or vote about a wipe? That being said, I would expect a server wipe upon release but probably not before any proposed changes to the code made the current game inoperable. I'm not advocating a wipe; don't get me wrong, I don't care one way or the other on that issue, I just think this is not the place to drag up old issues and perceived butt-hurts. Argue all you like on the mechanics, but in the end, you either play or don't. As a player you don't get the control you seem to think is your right in this situation. The only control you have is where you spend your time and/or money.

/rant end

I like the new look and especially enjoy the continued work on what may turn out to be the most complicated and intriguing crafting system yet implemented in an MMORPG. Thanks for your work, on the crafting edge. I do however have some issues with the current system of fighting, (pvp). Maybe it's just me, but the current control system seems a bit lacking. While I appreciate the work on the crafting side, the other side seems to need some polish as well.

I wish they'd do something about that. Right now there's no way to casually pvp without combat alts. The risk is always greater than the rewards. You rarely see random skirmishes with random chars in the lumberwoods. Makes the whole pvp element very rigid and forces you to play it way too safe.
Not that I know how you'd go about fixing that. Just saying.

I tried to see that as a compliment.
I failed.

I am still baffled by most people's stance on this, when it is fueled by the thought they'll somehow end up on top. I strongly doubt the leading factions/players will change as a result of a wipe. Of course, there will be one or two newcomers, but it'll be the vast minority. Furthermore, a fresh server would be MUCH more unforgiving to new players.

The matter is quite more simple: the game can't be balanced properly if devs continue to change mechanics without removing the things that shouldn't be available anymore after a change. As either it is balanced taking in account things that aren't available anymore (in this case, items of higher qualities than the ones available while playing normally), or it is balanced without taking those in account (but eventually making them too effective). It is one or the other - but in any case, your test area gets flawed by elements external to the new system.

I've been so busy with the holidays that I hadn't noticed this pissing match taking place in an announcement thread. Announcement threads are pivotal for communication between players and the devs and so I'm going to go through and prune posts that are offtopic. If your post gets pruned and you feel like I did this is error (it sometimes happens) just contact me and I'll double check.

Please keep this thread on topic! It's a very exciting announcement for a lot of us and no one wants to wade through offtopic posts. =)

Thank you TechXKnight! As a returning player trying to catch up on current development it's nice to not have to read through any more of the usual pissing matches then necessary :)

I am very excited about the first look at the new food system! At first blush to looks more understandable than the current humor system without having to go outside of the game client. Also, the new graphics look very nice! Great job guys!

So how's this coming along? ETA still this month, or were there unexpected delays?

'This month' no doubt means January 31st. If they fix the defenses at the same time, I might even start playing again.
