I think she's referring to the fact that, though it's okay that stalls are meant for the elite players who have a lot of goods to sell, there are far more elite players who want a stall than there are stalls for them to use, and the turnover is almost nil even with the new mechanic.
Conjecture! They aren't elite if they don't own a stall
I agree that the Admiral's set is so far much more useful in terms of slotting. After acquiring the full Pirate set, it seems the only thing going for it is its looks (which are, in my opinion, superior to the admiral)

Thinking that players are going to get used to the camera would be like my optometrist switching out my prescription with the lenses from a lighthouse, and telling me I'll get used to it.
then use Enders.
I find it a bit funny, and a bit sad, that I now have to use a 3rd party client if I don't want to get a headache and nausea from playing this game. Don't get me wrong Enders client is great. The problem is they update Salem right after I get home from work. Right when I want to play. That makes Enders client not work until it's updated. Usually the next day, for me. So if I want to play I'm forced to use the default client for that night. After a few times trying to play with the default client and getting nausea and headaches, I no longer play "update night".(It's night for me.) And I don't get nausea easy. I've never been seasick, carsick, or airsick. And I've been on really rough sea's and some really rough flights.
The problem with the new camera view is that the forced perspective is wrong. Things in the distance get smaller, not larger. When you look at a square enclosure in a perspective drawing the fore wall should be longer and larger than the far wall. Second the forced perspective is too extreme. Last but not least there seems to be a fisheye lens effect going on as well. Am I playing Salem or am I watching an 80's rap video?

That is hilarious, but true. I can play the original client without a headache though. I just don't like the field of view you have. You can not see far enough.

I can definitely see stalls working, but not in Boston. If they were instead built by players on their own claims there'd be no problems. Anyone who wants one could build it, but they'd have to consider security so having a shop wouldn't exactly be cheap. It'd take a fairly big town to have a marketplace that doesn't get cleaned out by thieves on a regular basis. There'd also be some positive social implications. Since you couldn't simply teleport to the marketplace trade would be limited to neighbours. This would make big towns encourage hermits to settle near them, and protect them from raiders. Owning a stall can make you filthy rich, but a marketplace is no good without customers hence the need for lots of hermits in your area.
This would be great. I'd want to be able to steal from a stall too though, if I can manage.

Why trade with people when you can force them to pay tax if you are stronger? Or you can once per week raid them and take what you need, wait few days for them to produce more goods and do that again? Imho trading is only possible between factions on same level and military power not between faction and hermits, of course depends on faction members good will, but right now I haven't seen many factions willing to trade instead of they prefer "pay tax/treaty or die" ways.

The camera is a start, but they really need to have a look at some other things that Ender's client offers. 1. Memorizing window position. Having to move your windows every time you close and opened them is just insane. 2. Dig tool. The game is heavily into punishing a player if something is done wrong. One way to avoid it is allowing the dig tool to at least get the ground properly flat to not run into problems when building walls and buildings. How many camps have been abandoned because of this? 3. Easy access to wielded items. Having to go through the inventory menu to swap tools or use the purse is just like adding too many link clicks from the front page of a website to an underlying page to get to the information I want. It's stupid and not user friendly at all. 4. Improved mini map icons. I want to be able to see animals and enemies.
Reminder to self: Patience is a virtue. If Apple blocks Java on Mac: delete
Potjeh wrote:You get less per hermit through trade, but you get a lot more hermits and it's a lot more sustainable.
If someone would trade/support me for few weeks I would invite him to my town and my faction would be larger... so I wouldn't need many hermits outside, why should I pay silver for goods if they can be produced inside my town for common good?
I like your idea about trading and how it should lure hermits around larger town, but I am afraid that with other game mechanics at current state it is something that can not be done. If you are friendly and supportive sooner or later they will invite you into their walls and you will become member of that town, sure others can settle and take your place, but it is going in same direction with them. If hermits around large towns are trust worthy it is more efficient to invite them, even with some basic access, than pay them for their goods (of course only if we are talking about faction that is interested in sustainable relations ).
