I think it would be very useful if there was a way to detach or move the chat bar. This is because when talking to people the text disappears quite quickly, so having the chat bar open helps to make sure I don't miss anything. The only problem with having the chat bar open is that it covers up the menu buttons, making it more difficult to play with the chat bar open. Therefore I believe it would help if the chat bar was either detachable or at the very least did not cover the menu buttons while open.

BDSM client has what you are looking for. I just know all the menu shortcuts so I leave it open and I use Ender's client without fancy chatting.
