The humor system

I absolutely love the inspiration system. I feel it's 100% perfect, with just enough complexity, and just enough reward for the intelligent player who plans and varies.

However, concerning the humor system, I said the same thing in H&H and I'll say the same thing here.

I detest the fact that humor is based on the highest "other" statistic. Put simply: the amount you need to level blood should only depend on blood. The amount you need to level BB should only depend on your BB. And so on. My suggestion is simple: change humor gains similar to the inspiration system, with an exponential increase in what is required for the next level. It would still reward good planning in gluttony, and still punish mistakes.

(An alternative to this is an idea proposed by Procne in this thread, where it depends on the total (sum) of all your humors, not just the highest one. I really like this idea)

Basically, I believe the punishment is too strong. It's a carrot/stick situation. If you want to be casual and carefree, you should be allowed to do so without punishment (but forfeiting benefits). In other words, if you want to be a person who just eats everything without thinking about it at all, you should be able to do that with no punishment (but suffer the extra benefits planning your food gets you). But currently if you're a person who just eats everything without thinking, you get absolutely raped by the system and will probably gimp your character.

Just my opinion. Jorb and Loftar/other devs, I know a lot of people on this forum probably love the current system. But you have to bear in mind that those who post regularly on the forums tend to be the ultra-serious ones who take the time to research and master the game. I believe I speak for the community without a voice - the more casual gamers who just want to play and have some fun, eating and levelling without worrying about gimping their character.

How it would punish mistakes?

I kind of agree with OP. I love the system except for the fact that gluttony depends on the higher humors instead of the one you are working on. One of mine is lower than the rest and it is so difficult for me to raise it. I knew better but others may not realize their mistake until later. (Also, please... Phlegm should be green and BB black ;) )

Precisely. And like you said, you knew better. Imagine what it's like for the casual gamer, who doesn't want to grind through endless pages of "Salem Theory" just to get some levels, then he gimps his character.

There shouldn't be punishment.. there should be a carrot.

The whole system (humors AND inspirations) is absolutely brilliant.. but for me this is a huge deal that spoils it a lot

There already is 'LA-like' penalty with the gluttony system. It is called 'invariance'.

As for gimping your stats, it is exetremely hard to do. Seriously, if you ***** it up just wait until you get some farmed foods going and you can fix it with no problems. Foraged food, thats a different story...they all suck.

Yes, but it depends on time (?) not like LA on amount of food you eat.

It is essentially the same thing:

study power inspirational, study ****** inspirational, study power inspirational again.

eat power food, eat ****** food, eat power food again.

 LA¹ + invariance² = more interesting gluttony and lower cap :)

¹ it should lower stat gain you get each time you eat same food type by ~10% + if you eat same food again, after ****** food, it should not lower penalties,
so if you eat food that gives you +20 blood, second same food should give +18, next 16.2 and so on

² should only depends on time needed to consume food not on time between players clicks
(each food type has different consume time, so it will be one more interesting parameter to optimize gluttony)

I like the current system.

And i don't get this thing about casuals not understanding. It is one of the few things very clearly and well explained in the tutorial. If you meant people who cannot read English or have the comprehension ability of a chimpanzee then maybe. But i think they would struggle with other aspects of the game aswell.
