Gluttony can become quite hectic because you have to make decisions and click quickly as gluttony points drain is always active, and each second lost on not eating only contributes to this drain and invariety level increases. It gets much worse when player is lagging, or missclicks food.

The idea is simply to stop the drain and invariety level growth while not eating. So that players don't have to worry about quickly clicking to not lose time, and would have some to make better decisions.

also it shouldn't be called gluttony in game since what you are eating in glutton mode isn't going to waste nor are you spending food in a thoughtless manner

The difference is like between eating a lot of yummy stuff on a huge party and eating hamburgers in hamburger eating competition.

Gluttony in Salem is eating when you aren't hungry. Actually, you can start gluttony only when your humours are maxed.

What he is saying is that it ought be fast and hectic like how a true glutton would be eating his feast, recklessly and with abandon. Not slow and calculated with precision to waste as little as possible.

At least that is the impression I got. I also think it is how it should be as is, for that reason. Getting your food order right with the limited time is one of the mini games I enjoy within Salem.
