I was under the impression that most skills unlock stuff?

Unlock BY DOING certain actions. Which sounds like a fun idea, but what sort of actions unlocking what sort of skills? We have witchcraft unlocking by studying a doll. Presumably, other skills like this would also be rare and difficult to get.

Thanks TM for clarifying that.

How about this example:

Lighting a fire at prof 5 does nothing, but having prof 50, unlocks a different skill. These days there are many alts who can just focus on a single task, maybe by doing this, it will encourage less use of alts by adding some sort of penalty for not trying to do stuff...or maybe just promote the core of the came...crafting. There are people who focus on 1 or 3 foods, maybe make some skill appear by cooking..who knows, 30 croissants.

That does not work the way you want, instead of stuffing in inspirationals you just do a "recipe" to get a skill, those things will be known fast and then it makes no difference at all.

Sounds repetitive and lame

hnh's system was good for discovering stuff. You have no idea how to make wood stuff because you haven't discovered wood. Cut down a tree and collect blocks and now you figured out how to make stuff with wood blocks.
