Passive Proficiencies Modification

Postby Sipo » Wed Dec 09, 2015 3:14 am

My idea is to make passive gains be a different bar, in other words, not resettable when you complete levelling up a skill, and it only raises when you do enough actions to fill the bar.

Maybe the proficiency bar could have a top and bottom part. top for active bottom for passive. once you are late beginner game, passive profs dont make sense anymore...for late game passive prof is just for nothing.
This way it would benefit all equally.

+1, though I think the proficiencies interface is already pretty cluttered and super confusing to new players... It seems like this might push it over the top. Mainly a concern of interface though...

Also, currently the passive gains seem to be most useful in that they can kind of top off your active gains and make it so you can skip studying another inspirational if you know you'll be chopping down 50 trees later. Waiting for them to entirely fill a bar by themselves seems like it would take way too long, even though it would be more useful than it is currently.

A couple possible variations come to mind too, maybe for making it possible to use it in combination with your active gains:

A - (automatic) Your passive gains can be shown separately, but will be calculated/used with your active gains like they are now except only when you raise that proficiency or learn a skill that uses that proficiency. Otherwise the passive gains of a prof remain if raising/learning with others profs.
B - (manual) There's a button to add your passive gains for a proficiency into your active pool, kind of like how there's a + button for a proficiency, maybe there could be a + button next to the passive gain too that will just add it into the active gain bar.

I think I'd like B the most, but it's also the -most- cluttered option as far as interfaces go... Having a real hard time imagining what it'd look like :\

I agree with the concerns about possible UI clutter, and communicating how it works to new players. But love the underlying idea.

Yes, I like this alot. The passive gain is already too little to be much of an influence to us and therefore made me questionize its effectivity. It would either has to be increased with a couple hunderd percents or indeed something like a bar that does not resets itself.
