Going Postal

Always been rejected, however i feel like making a new kind of mailbox with a little indepth mechanics.

Can only be constructed if you are a member of a village.

You need carpentry and the ability to make paper.

Allows the construction of a mailbox ( Steel + wood post(Crafted from 1 oiled board))
Mailbox's can ONLY be built on village land
Each mailbox is unique to the player who PLACED it and can be named once by the owner
You can add upto x10 paper to the mailbox (1 paper per message/page you send)
You can add 1x ink to the mailbox (unlimited use)
You can add 1x quil to the mailbox (unlimited use)
You CANNOT send items (Maybe can be a later suggestion / addition)

When you access your own mailbox, you see a list of contacts + area to scribe a letter
To send someone mail, you must visit their mailbox and remember it
Only the owner of the mailbox can look inside the mailbox's they build
You can turn on criminal acts + larceny to open someone elses mailbox

So if you wish to be able to send people mail ingame, you first must visit their mailbox, remember it then go back home.

Would love mailbox's, then again we do have the forums.

Now that we have paper, this seems more like an idea we can use.

I wonder if instead of needing to visit the mailbox, one could have the ability to send a letter to any kinned character who has a mailbox from the postmaster or one's own mailbox.

This is not wow, scratch that one off (I gotta drive to Denver today, so I can fly there next week...), rest looks good though!

Reward without work is no reward at all.

Going Postal? I love that book.

Novel idea, but what you describe sounds like something few players will actually use in game. You can use oiled boards, steel, ink, paper and quill to send a message the player can only receive while in game and checking their mailbox.... or you can just skype, or facebook or text them.

A cute idea, but I'd rather see the devs spend their time on something that would actually be used.

I would say you can send items+Letters via the post master maybe? With the added extra of a fee.

With a mailbox you can send letters, with no cost? but you would need to visit other players mailbox's in person like i suggested.

Im still very keen on forcing players to explore / travel by foot.

Like poledancing ? Or madness ?

The whole point of this, is it allows contact ingame without letting people know who you are on the forums. The ability to keep your real ID hidden without needing multipul forum accounts as well.

It breaks my heart that this game has no /dance. It might be what's keeping us from having 1m concurrent active players. Sarcasm aside, a dancing action is easier to perform than building a mail system that less efficiently gets the message across to the people you want to get it to than just using the forums/your own chat means.

This is something that interacts with the player and helps set the tone of Salem. It's unrefined and a lot of people love screaming about how bad it is. But when it comes down to it, when implementing a mechanic like this it's unlikely what you throw out there on the first attempt is going to be the perfect system. And considering it's badstuff added to a game with an existing playerbase, it's no surprise that we do have people who whine incessantly. Maybe you really should suggest ideas for reworked madness if that's where your heart is?

Cowardice. I've got some bad **** attached to my name, but I'm not actively going to jump through extra hoops to keep any karma from tracking me down. Drama is good, drama is life.

I do think that since we now have an appropriate 'cost' with sending letters(paper) that a mailbox could be ok. Perhaps sending interface through a postmaster like NPC and receiving through a mailbox that you would build. Its on the list but not high priority.

Speaking of which. We should probably make a new list for things we would 'hope' are in during 2015 and things that we think are fair to say they won't make it.

Could you not just implement it via the postmaster for now, to make the functionality available right away? (receiving works already, so "only" sending needs to be done)
And later on you could add an appropriate structure, though it does not make thaaat much of a difference if you have a mailbox at home or the postmaster in town.
