Bigger and Better Firepit

Postby Penge567 » Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:51 am

This is a small one, but the fire pit is a little small once your base grows around it. It looks a little out of place having a little circle of pebbles next to a big brick townhouse. I'd like to see a bigger firepit, maybe one that burns longer with room for more fuel, and a 3x3 grid instead of a 2x2. Maybe a big stone ring, 2x2 blocks. I'll post a picture of a real life example. This would just be something a bit more permanent-looking as well as more convenient craft-wise. Or, on an alternative note, it could be one of those portable iron firepits that are movable, so if you needed to move the firepit someplace, you could do so as long as it's empty.

What would be the advantages of having this other than a longer lasting fire and looking cool? We also have a fire in game that never goes out. Jack-o-lanterns also last very long.

I think it would be neat to have something like this tho. Could be visually advantageous to a village if nothing else.

Honestly, the aesthetic was most of it. I figured the 3x3 grid for cooking would give it a bit more purpose, but I just think the tiny fire looks silly when you have a bigger homestead. The everlasting flame is great, but one of the things I use a fire for is a sign of life. An active fire is like a "I've been online recently" sign for raiders, so a fire like this that lasts longer could be better for if you need to make longer treks. I suppose a bigger fire would cook faster as well, but not by much.

I think it would be cool to have this and get a benefit like slower vlcaim decay, fighting darkness, bonus to industry type stuff, fighting insanity, etc.

Being around a big bonfire is just awesome.

Yeah, haha, make a wrought iron spit and put a goat on it. Have the town noob dedicated to turning it until it's done.

Fire, we need more fire! :D

Would like this, though as someone said already, if it's just for a longer lasting fire: jack o lanterns last 3 days (but are SLOW to ignite a torch), stoves last 24h iirc, and an eternal flame last...well, for eternity or so...^^

I would not mind having a larger fire pit that could hold 4 pots clay or copper that is a little more compact, can hold 10 items for oven cooking, and will burn for 60 hours and keep embers for another 12 after fuel is out but takes 2 hours to get embers. I also would not mind having to use something like:

20 flint
4 wrought iron bars
100 stone
25 granite
1 traces of a lost colony (as this would be a very useful fire pit and we would not want a ton of people spamming them.)

Can only be built outside on pavement takes up a 4x4 area and if any other building is near it by 4 tiles it will put arson on the building.

Required for skill advanced camping

85 sparks & embers
