Safe Trading

I remember back in the day playing Sierra's the Realm where trading consisted much like it does here by dropping an item on the ground and hopefully the other player drops the payment for you in return..
There are better ways to do it just as what existed in World Of Warcraft that leaves little room for scammers.
Someone wants to buy your rabbit skin, you right click the player and open a trade menu, then place the rabbit skin inside the trade window where the buying player can inspect it. The buying player can then place payment in his trade window, both players can now see all items taking place in the transaction. Both players click confirm and the items are traded.. simple and safe..

Please use the search button. This has been posted WAY too many times. This is something that will never happen in this game.

I read the whole thing, but I really should have stopped when I heard you reference f***ing WoW as a justification for anything in Salem.
Get out.

I only mentioned WoW because it was a hugely popular and very successful and MMO.

The main argument against this, and the most compelling one , has always been that Salem is a political game, where you solve stuff like scamming via player-to-player interaction. Someone scammed you? Raid them. Hire raiders to raid them. Smear their name on all the town walls. Make up your own revenge but having magical safety isn't the path and while you think it'd be fun it would just be one step closer towards making the game boring.

Raiding someone is excessive over the level of loss you are likely to incur in many trades, but yes, in game solutions exist. For one, the reputation thing, is one. Also, a lot of people IRL and in general are surprisingly trustworthy, especially when it comes to matters of continued relationships and general reputation. If you want to trade with someone in the future, you don't screw them. If you want to be a trader, you don't screw people, because that gets around. Studies have shown that a lot of the time, people playing the Ultimatum game, even with people they will never meet except the once, and not in person, will often be "fair". And traditional game theory assumed pure logic and ruthlessness, however, people are wired to incline towards it. Will you still get screwed? Yes. There will be defectors, people can be awful. But on average, the pattern is for fairness.
And if they "know you" or want an ongoing reputation it overwhelmingly skews in favor of being "fair".
This is why the reputation thing we do with traders is a good thing on the trade forum.

Couldn't a scammer just make an alt, and complete the scam then delete the alt. There would be no reputation to taint..
A trade window would mimic real life where Noone would be dropping items on the floor.
