Living in the Darkness - Questions

Postby alloin » Thu Oct 25, 2012 1:18 pm

Some people have been claiming that living in the darkness is considered beeing an exploit. And that it will be patched (no more crime debuff in the darkness).
People claimed that jorb specifically said that living in the darkness is not intended.
(i can provide screenshots/logs if needed)

I for one, have made a pretty large settlement in total darkness, starting from my 60's humours.
I sacrificed alot to build a huge place there, spent xx.000's of silver and had to eat regen food non-stop.
A sacrifice worth the defence the darkness offers.

My humours are far beyond 60 now, but there is still a slight drain, so I'm still sacrificing alot for the return of a nice defence, a good trade in my honest opinion, a lot support me on that. (those who know how hard it is to live in the darkness)

Now is my question, are the rumors true ? Is living in the darkness exploiting, and is it true that it isn't intended ? Is it true that the crime debuff will be removed in the darkness?

Because if that is true, all the efforts made to build and live in the darkness would be obliterated, and the time and effort could have been used to settle somewhere else building a much larger and safer place.

I admit raiding in the darnkess is not easy, but that doesn't make it impossible. If people brag about their almost 100% gluttony food, prove it and come bash gates in the darkness, you should have at least 150 humours with the amount of bragging done.

My apologies for the previous thread about this subject, but it was a derail which got split by staxjax , his beloved friends started mudslinging & trolling so it got closed by their best friend... hope this does not happen here.

TL;DR: Some people think/claim that living in the darkness is considered an exploit, and that it is impossible to raid, i say this is not true, someone with decent stats can raid easily.
The sacrifice (constant drain up untill 150+ biles, lower regen,no light, dangerous creatures) made to live there is a nice trade for the defence received.

Hope this thread can stay clean, no derailing and mudslinging please, !

Yes, it would be interesting to see what devs intend to do with darkness exactly.

Personally I think that any change, that makes living in darkness even more dangerous, will be paired with way to remove darkness, at least locally.

What's funny is, the darkness shifts and moves.

Also it's not a solid distance from each polar direction it's more like a circle, you can reach the north darkness and west darkness at weird locations and see it isn't a perfect "line"

Also, a massive amount of the game world is in darkness, whether its a .1 drain or higher...We weren't meant to build out here?

What is this...I dont even...

I would like to see what plans Devs got for darkness too.

If they are going to make darkness as place only for hunting and gathering rare animals and items,
but not for building towns or camps many people and factions will loose their main bases.

I hope that witches will be stronger in darkness and witch-char will be able to raid in-darkness-camp easily.

Don't recall who's saying it myself, and haven't really been paying attention, but I can tell you that is completely wrong. Last I knew, jorb was living in the darkness himself. This doesn't mean that the devs can't change their minds on the matter.

Then don't start off your thread with mudslinging and what could start a flame war. I understand your intentions, but you're not following through with them very well at the start.
