About Stockbins

Stockbins are a great thing, really! :-)

There are some things though that might need fixing:

1.) Even though they differentiate between different boards by displaying different icons, they do not restrict it the way one would expect it, like, you put a dry board first, and then still can add a planed board on top, it is not really a problem, I just would assume it is a bug.

2.) Stockbins should be able to hold dross, also ore, woodblocks, and maybe even other things.

3.) There should be a button in the stockbin interface to fill it up instantly to the max, like using shift-scroll until it is either full or no appropriate items left in your inventory.

And as an unrelated sidenote: Digging dirt needs a fix, too, afaik digging equip does not do anything right now, which is sad. Also, by the sheer amount of traces of the lost colony one used to find while digging, I assume that now spoils mining too by adding huge madness all the time. Digging is a very basic and important thing though, that should not be punished above the huge amounts of time some serious digging costs already.

JC said Dross and Ore and other stuff is hard to do since they have Purity.

I really wish you could store Stone in a stock bin. Lime and Granite but no Stone? *sad face*

dat purity stuff is BS, considering planks can have purity and they are able to be held in the stockbin

This was discussed long ago. JC put out an open statement here http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12745&hilit=storage
It is a long thread, without JC explaining what his vision was for stock bins, it got out of control. The issue you have is. What should and should not be stored. The issue at hand is sheds. Why would you build a shed when you can litter stock bins everywhere. Not to mention the investment people already have into sheds that now feel useless and taking up space.

I tried to understand the relation in the materials that were allowed. I get the idea of needing to stock repairing mats for walls. but then you have coal, lime. Yes coal is used to refill torch posts. but why not be able to store warped boards or wood blocks to refill the torch posts. The lime well lime and coal for smelting. Again we run into why not ore. Then fields well lime and coal were great for fields so maybe to help with fields. but now with the new system dross is useful so if it was to help with fields then dross should be added to the stock bin list.

I agree that the topic should be opened back up to store dross, warped boards\woodblocks, and ore.
If you think something else should be added then you will have to put up a very valid reason for doing so. JC will not change things without a real argument.
However maybe he will drop us a line on what his vision for stock bins was.

Lime was originally added because so many people used so much lime in farming. Sure, lime can be stored in the boulder, but I guess John was feeling nice. With the change in fertilizers, it should probably be removed as stockable, but I doubt that will happen. All types of ore can just sit in the boulder until you're ready for them, or in the wall of your mine. Wood blocks can already be fairly compactly stored in the logs since those don't have a hit box and most people aren't going to store warped boards at all but replane them right away. I suppose the lime having been added mostly for the farmers is a good argument to now add dross...

That is all fair and agreeable. With that being said i appreciate the sense of concern regarding dross. I often do a lot of iron at once not even using tons of smelters but many runs in a row and have tons of dross, more than I can use in one day. However I will probably not do iron again for a while. Honestly probably not until i ran out of dross again. So a Really nice thing for all would be dross stock bins.

Everything we can mine, chop and use later in big quantities at same time will fit bins. Lime is not an exception.
