Facebook Platform

Postby jayt1990 » Thu Nov 27, 2014 5:52 am

Okay so i don't know if this has been suggested in the past but I think its worth posting again if it has. The one thing that has always baffled me about this game is why it isn't more popular and have more players etc, this is a really good addictive game imo..

What i feel would benefit this game is this game to be launched on facebook as an app so you can play it via facebook and share newsfeeds about it etc. I mean games like farmville are really popular and this is a much more complex and fun game of the same type in a way really with pvp element added in which i think would appeal quite a lot to that audience.

What do you guys think?

It takes a lot of work to port a game to a new platform and complex games don't do well on facebook.

We appreciate the interest and excitement for the game. We think it is on the right track as well.

As for why it doesn't have more players. It was never finished, and thus never marketed once finished. We remain optimistic that a finished and marketed Salem will attract a healthy audience.

That being said, almost 3,000 Players enjoy Salem on a monthly basis. So we don't exactly consider it 'empty' either.

I totally agree its not empty, i mean i play with several other players and trade with others outside of my own circle and aware that there are several groups like this out there too. But rare that i find a random person in the wilderness, just something i look forward to as a possibility one day and that kind of population i think is possible on facebook.

I understand that as the person in the first reply said that it is alot of work to put a game on facebook, but is this even possible / something that salem is looking into is really what i wanted to find out ^^

We have no intention to put the game on facebook.

Meeting people in the wilderness would be horrible! Salem on Facebook would be horrible!

If you, OP, want more constructive answer WHY - then here:
Current population is just fine, it can be slightly bigger, but not too much. Otherwise the world would be overburdened with abandoned leantos, tilled fields, some rotten stuff etc. Tons of raiders everywhere, and the frist thing you will have to do - is to build a good fence and just then anything else = )

Also Facebook is a social network and this game, I would call, is antisocial. I wouldn't call my friend to play with me - I don't want him to eat my food, burden my chests with flints, smooth stones and wood choppings and stop playing after 2 or 3 days (and thats if he manages to understand anything in the game).
If I see someone in the wilderness, i would rather go away than stop to talk, having a threat that he has better stats than I do and - why not - intention to kill me?
I moved from my last base just because some random guy walked in and told something like: "oh, you must build some walls, you know" - I decided that it is faster to move rather than to make good walls = )

Also, this game would need then popping up coins and achievement like "I'VA CHOPPAD DAH TREE!" or "WOW! I"VA FOUND DAH PEWRL!" making you a somehow desirable target for raiding = )

No, this game is too complicated and atisocial for Facebook = )

I would love to have another drama platform such as facebook, that would be some epic tears.

*Salem used to have a facebook page tho, I remember spamming it for a beta-key back in the days without succes.

Putting Salem on Facebook would ruin its reputation.
Instead, having it on Steam when it's finished would be a great success.
