It is better to let it be pipes. You can make a few pipes, ordinary wood, Indian peace pipe (it's stylish for this game) also can be any unusual, such as glass or bone.

Well, you can already scalp people or break their legs.
So I think making some use of things that existed in the time as consumables or inspirational items wouldn't be bad.
People drank a lot of beer, for instance, and again, we already have it so you can break peoples legs or scalp them, so a little beer wouldn't be awful to have as a consumable, especially since it's something that requires you to do a little work probably both in terms of getting your equipment to brew it, and the materials.
You could also have a fun little trade off with maybe like, causing some imbalance or more imbalance gain during a period of sufficient inebriation, with the benefit of not getting as afraid of stuff and maybe some other gains. (Liquid courage, etc.)
