IMO i would love to see wars just because of these things, like 2 factions fighting over 1 gold mine or bear den.
I disagree that they should be moved, just let them stay in one place, and whoever controls it gets richer and richer until someone stops him.
Yes it gives an advantage to whoever owns it but THATS THE POINT.
Why should steel tools exist when there are iron ones?
Steel just gives an advantage to people so it should be removed.
I do agree with dallane though the drain and darkness animals would be a bit stupid though.

well the top ten town spot are supposed to be this kind of competition, yet the only time ive seen some shenanigans happen was when Darwoth got pooped claimed for a week or 2. Other than that i havent seen or heard much about town competition :o

You know what might be interesting was if these locations were constantly shifting. Once a place was found few would want to invest in permanent defenses which might lead to more shenanigans. It would also give a big incentives to mappers and explorers which the OP wants. The node would have to be worth people finding it and using it only to have it disappear in a couple of days, but that is just an issue of imagination.

Yes yes, but I mean like a week, if not less.

I mean, I'm not sold on the idea as a whole, but I'm trying to play with it.

The top ten town mechanic isn't seeing much fruition, I think, because of playerbase size. Give it time :).
