You just need to add a random chance of getting eaten by a shark each time you grab water from Providence for balance.

no-one does, they always were pointless and still are
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

You could pump water to a barrel or to some stone tube, just like in OP

A big public fountain in a town with little chubby angels shooting water out of ....orifices would be kinda nice to look at.

Maybe you don't need to build them ON well nodes, instead you can build them anywhere and just put water in them by the barrel full, like 10-20 barrels full, then anyone can walk up too them and take out bucket fulls by clicking on it. It's like a huge 1000 liter immovable barrel. No change in water acquisition but great for storage. Aren't you doing some sculpture system, this would be a great thing to sculpt.

a pump that works a bit like stamp mill and slowly creates litres of water. have them available to be built on water nodes with a few able to be built per node and the easy convenience would come when you build your town or farms around the node.

Here we go. Fill it up with coal and it fills up with water.
