My land is extremely uneven. I would have practically no use of expanding it. Except for braziers firing at people leaving the claim, right?

Perhaps the best solution would be to expand my claim when I have money. I have other priorities now and making money is difficult when few people want to trade (and I get scammed trading, :) )
Maybe I should simply create another claim for timber piles only.

If your claim does not extend far enough out side your walls then raiders will just build a wall off your claim and use splash damage to destroy your wall without committing a crime or triggering your braziers. If thats your only wall then they can raid your base without committing a Waste crime or needing the Waste skill.
