Tinder Drill breaking chance

Postby bobmiller123 » Tue Feb 12, 2013 4:26 pm

Perhaps I have a pilgrim with cerebral palsy, but i feel that lighting a fire is something a cave man was able to do, but yet my pilgrim breaks about 5/6 of his drills before he gets his fire started. I have never started a fire, in real life, with a tinder drill, but really - this is a video game and I honestly feel the chance is just too great for failure for this. Now, when you chop down a tree and stop in the middle, you can continue your progress later.. Would it be taboo to do this to lighting a fire as well? When i get to 90% and the drill breaks, then i have to start over at 0 (after making another drill) only to stop again because my phlem is out, you really start to think someone is just trolling you at the creation level of the game. Just my 2 cents -- perhaps lower the breaking chance *OR* at least let you continue where you left off.

Actually, the chance of it breaking does depend on something. I'm not sure whether it's the humours or some aptitude (frontier and wilderness?), but at some point I stopped failing at lighting fires.

Being able to continue your progress after failing is a decent idea, though, but it probably has too low of an impact on gameplay to bother. As a low priority quality-of-life change, sure.

Yes I've been growing lax on feeding my stove, and lately I hardly ever fail on lighting it with a tinder drill. I'm assuming sparks and embers have some kind of impact on it (but I do remember what a pain it was to light fires at the start )
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

That post is from November, responding there would obviously be necroposting.

And I too hate the Tinder Drill, they should really modify the chance.

How old can a post be before its considered necro posting? I thought it was necro posting if you answered a post where doing so seemed outdated or the conditions on which the original post was made was outdated.

As far as I've ever heard, it's a necro if the last post was more than a few weeks ago, but here it's more based on the whim of the mods whether they decide to merge your thread with an older one, even one done updates ago.

Fire seemed to get a lot easier for me lately, and I just thought I'd been having good luck lately. I guess the good news is, it doesn't take more than a couple weeks of playing to raise those proficiencies, and in the meantime, there's the lit torch method of fire saving (not sure if that's considered a bug or not). Is it certain that Sparks and Embers is the thing that makes fire easier? I'm tempted to make an alt to test this.

They might have made it easier lately becaue I have never been able to light two fires in a row without any breaking of drills. But yesterday it happened. I was stunned!

Different forum, different discussion. Also, please don't make up rules concerning how or when people can post. Bringing up old threads is fine if there's a legitimate reason for it. Bringing one up just to +1 or spam it, though, is frowned upon. If you wish to discuss forum rules, please do so in the appropriate thread. Off-topic posts removed.

Sorry, I've just seen people mention necroing as if it was frowned upon and assumed it was against the rules. It is one of those things that is just assumed to be against the rules.
