Search wiki from your browsers search

The steps contained here should work for many browsers that support basic searching options. But as usual, while these steps are not likely to hurt your system, any harm caused by direct or indirect use of these steps are your problem. I cannot be held accountable to any damages, mainly because I have never been harmed by them.

This should work on the following browsers. I however only use the most current FireFox Portable version. It may work on other versions, but I do not have a way to test them. Try if it fails it wont hurt you (or it shouldn't hurt you).

Google Chrome
Internet Explorer 7+

Further, any browser that supports MozSearch or the OpenSearch rules can use this method - don't ask me what that means, its just what the FAQ says.

To install the Search ability

1. To enable searching of this site in your Search location visit Search Plugins website.
2. The Search URL box requires the following text http://salemwiki.info/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=TEST.
3. Leave Suggestion URL (optional) blank.
4. Search plugin title can be set to Salem
5. The following default options are fine, Search Method Get, Search Results Format is of course HTML, Input Encoding UTF-8, Adult Content can be set to False
6. I use the image below, and use the Upload ability to give the search the FavIcon needed.

If you like the image below, Save the image to a location you can remember and then upload it to Search Plugins.

Click on "Create Plugin" and then in the text that appears above the fields, click install which will let you install it and/or install it and start using it now.

Thanks, but how this search will actually work?
Will it simply pass your search criteria to the wiki search tool? Or will it utilise 3rd party search engines like google to do the search?

Currently the biggest problem with the wiki is that it's overloaded and searching may take some time. Right now I'm using google to speed the search.
It's enough in google to type site:salemwiki.info in front to make google search only on this one webpage. It doesn't use wiki's resources and is much faster.

I'm not really sure what this is doing in Ideas & Innovations. This seems more a "how-to" than anything else and should be in the "Help!" section. If there's any reason it should be left in I&I, follow up or it will be moved shortly.

Mostly wasnt put there cos I was late for work and no one asked for a way to make it easier to search wiki.

The search information treats it like any other search you have that maybe like Google search, Amazon, Bing, Wikipedia, Yahoo etc. Its not sent to another site that I am aware of, as the information is all contained within the browser using the MoxSearch/OpenSearch platform built into the browser.

The information is treated by the wiki itself, meaning that it bypass the google site: command. So yes it will require the wiki to be in a speedy mood, which currently is normally everyday - congrats to the wiki team.
