Beating the "maintenance mode"

Postby trungdle » Sat Mar 21, 2015 11:42 pm

I'm opening a discussion about the excitement problem in Salem. Currently, the tasks that you have to do everyday are like monthly bills. Salty and not fun. ¦]
How do you make it fun again if you can change those daily tasks?
I'm not saying they are not good as is. I'm saying if you can change them what will you do? (Like, a discussion, not a complain)
You thought I quit.

I only came here to complain about how grindy and rubbish 95% of salem is.
You broke my heart with that sentence.

The quite obvious motivator of a behaviour is a quite obvious reward. There will be no daily tasks + rewards in salem, so do we have to invent a new system or there is one in the minds of devs or is there actually one in circulation already?
You need to feel that you have achieved something and that is was made all by you and it was fun, but also hard work.

Maybe we need more frequent events where you grow crops, grow potables, mine rocks, dig soil, cook food, arson buildings. Like elder tree and meteorite in rs.
You could see milestones in your character's progress by getting more valuable rewards in these events.

Since Salem is a sandbox game, we don't have any plans to put in any quests or 'achievements' that reward you for doing your chores. The rewards in this game are being able to do what you want to do. If you want your humors to reach a certain level so you can hunt a certain animal, you farm. And the animal carcass is your reward. If you don't want higher humors, you actually can get by with no farming at all. If you want a certain skill, getting it is your reward for gathering and making all the inspirationals you need. You need to make your own rewards, like Darwoth is saying.

That being said, the expeditions will have nice things and getting strong or rich or whatever enough to acquire them in the expedition will let you bring those nice things back to Providence, so that's kinda like a quest.

Every word you said was like a sip of alcohol to me, and you are pretty damn hot sounding right now, just thinking of expeditions makes me get an "inspirational boost"
