Interrogation and coercion

JC told me a really good idea about ransoms and I fully support it and think he should put it in.

This is one of the best ideas I've seen :). Sounds like it'd create some juicy village drama and tension, which I'm always for.

Well, there might be some merit to allowing a defeated party to negotiate, or a way to defeat them that allows negotiation. But going right straight to "surrender of all rights" just isn't going to make sense all the time. Maybe having a way for people to fold up like a house of cards and accept a total loss on what they had on them and even the traditional prof/insp loss, but everything? Sometimes, that isn't going to be worth it, whether in terms of silver value, time invested, or the goodwill and friendship with your fellow players.

If there was some means in which you could shake someone down for "your money or your life" and just straight jack them of everything they had and promptly send them to their claim/boston when they made it easy for you, that might be a thing. You might also knock them out, who knows.

Of course on the other end, as you suggest, there are times when it would make more sense to gracefully decamp from your "Hobo Camp" or "Hovel and a couple dozen boxes" and let someone have your crap. You also have your Town claim thing, although I feel like maybe having a legal instrument that uses silver as it's fuel that's more of a scalpel than the sledgehammer of TC'ing and Eminent Domaining someone might be worth looking at. It just seems inefficient and ill suited for the purpose of "legally" or "economically" usurping a claim. Sure, you can do it, but it's like squashing flies with a sledgehammer. Perhaps as a balancing factor for the "efficiency" it presents for the "attacking" party it would involve a struggle or period that allowed contest, and would also probably not involve someone having to tangle with the offending structure doing Town Stuff around their claim.

So if you lost out on contesting it money wise, or just didn't bother, they took the land.

Unless the mechanics changed since the last time I got robbed (long time) when you KO someone you can already take all their clothes/coin purse/ ect. so you basically already can shake down someone then send them home. This is more of a, "You're about to die, you have ten seconds to tell me what I want to know/give me what I want or you die"

And yeah, in some cases you won't want to do it. I was thinking that if the owner got hold of evidence of coercion, or something like that, they could use it to take back their claim since contracts aren't valid if done under coercion. As for information like you said you wouldn't want to ruin the good will of your friends, but some would trade their character for the hide of their allies. Of course you don't have to accept the deal, so if you don't want to do it you never have to.

If you're being murdered Darwoth already knows where your homestead is.
