If you refer to the fact that animals now have icons on the minimap (which can not be called recent by any definition, IMO) then you can add showicon=false to the relevant entries in ~/Salem/radar.xml

There are also several threads for radar setup and how to not have the "new" icons and handy little diamonds, circles and squares instead.

win-security is popping up and saying that i#m not protected any more
when looking at avira "controll" it shows the slider as off (i.e. red) for real time scanner.

sometimes i can watch it deactivating when i start the client.
not testet with vanilla thought.

That would be kind of strange, I recommend getting malewarebytes anti malware and running a full system scan with it, just to be on the safe side.

Otherwise, is there any kind of "game mode" set in avira, that would deactivate it when you start a game?

Does it de-activate only when you start Salem, or are there other things that also trigger this behaviour?

Also, can you turn it back on manually when Salem is running, and what happens then?

i can reactivate it manually. getting a prompt if i want that program (avira) to be able to make changes to the system.

Have you run a scan with MBAM? (Malewarebytes anti maleware)

Which Java version are you running?

There are later version for java 8, but it should actually not matter much.

A quick google showed that avira tends to screw up itself after updates, at least that happened already more than 1 or 2 times.

I still recommend running MBAM, and maybe using a different anti-virus.

You could also go to the avira site and try to contact their support or ask around, I assume they have something like a forum, everybody has that nowadays.
