SalemDesigner: Village Planning Tool

Greetings Pilgrims,

I have created a new version of my SalemDesigner conversion pack for AnnoDesigner and thought I would make a post on these new forums for it as well. This tool has most of the current buildings in Salem sizes preset, along with images to make the various buildings easy to differentiate. AnnoDesigner can save plans to edit later or output a PNG file to share with others.

Current Conversion Pack: Version 3

How to install:
1. Download Anno Designer: http://code.google.com/p/anno-designer/
2. Download Conversion Pack (link above).
3. Extract Anno Designer to location of your choice, and then extract the contents of the conversion pack to the Anno Designer folder. Overwrite files when asked.
4. Start Anno Designer, the building Presets and icons should now be those of Salem.

All of the images are now updated to proper in-game shots of them, and have been optimized for size and quality. Due to this however, the new pack is almost 2mb. While doing this I also tried to adjust them so there would not be that annoying clipping anymore while placing new buildings; let me know if I missed any clipping issues.

Note: I have yet to add the following buildings that are in the game due to a lack of a decent screenshot of them or unknown size:
• Blazing Brazier
• Boundary Stone
• Cauldron
• Cross of Saint George
• Stamp Mill

Changelog:

V1:
• Initial Release

V2:
• Unreleased update which added more buildings

V3:
• Added more buildings, including Turkey Coop and Simple Stove
• All images are how they look in game, no longer icons
• Added some extra presets I found handy
• Vertical options for items that would clip before
• Clipping of all images should be reduced or eliminated
Note: Due to how AnnoDesigner saves plans and a change in the naming scheme I used, these new images will *not* appear on older plans. They will only work for all plans created from now on. They will also not overwrite the original icons I used in earlier packs, so those will still be used for older plans if you have an older version of my conversion pack still installed.

I would like to thank ZackSchneider for creating AnnoDesigner.

UPDATE: I am back! Link updated for version 3, if there are any changes you can inform me about that will help me update the program sooner. Otherwise expect Version 4 in the coming weeks.

Sorry your running into that issue. Sadly I am not a true programmer and can only edit the file needed to change the building presets to match Salem. The code of AnnoDesigner was beyond my comprehension when I looked into adjusting other hard-coded items (giving the road tile a texture), so I wouldn't know how to go about fixing that problem.

The creator of Annodesigner has said that bug will be fixed in the next update. If however it worked before you added my files to it then that may be my fault and I can look into if I have edited anything wrong.

From what I can tell your mods are not causing the issue.

Is there a way to place objects 'off the grid' or at an angle?

No, that was another thing I attempted to figure out in the program, as in my own build I found the windmill to be needing to go between squares. I am sure there is some way to do it but my C# isn't much above beginner, and my java skills are non-existent.

What I do when I have a building I want to place between squares is I adjust the size of the building to be one more. After you select a building to place, in the upper right there is a list of the settings for it, including size and icon and such. I adjust the size to be one more than what it actually is to make sure I save enough room. It seems to work fairly well in many cases as most things can go too close to each other anyway. There is no way I could think of to deal with angled buildings in the programs current state though, sorry.

Hope that helps some,

Amnis

No need to create an account. When you click the link on the center of the page there will be 3 boxes, the first one says "Buy RapidPro", the one to the right says "Save file to....your computer". On the bottom of the Save File to box there is a green button with a down arrow and says "download" just click that and it should start the download.

Hope that was clear enough,

If they aren't already added to the designer, might I ask if you could add the two-story wooden house in Boston, as well as the brick house and the enter-able wooden house? They're easy enough to grab a screenshot of and to determine size in tiles. I'd like to be able to future-proof my designs for their inevitable release.

My plan is to make sure everything that can be built is represented in the conversion pack. I don't want to make it confusing by having things that are not able to be built and may not be available for some time if ever. Plans are not limited to only the presets I put in though. You can easily create a custom sized building by using the sizing tools in the upper right corner of the program. Just size up the building you wish in town and then enter those measurements into AnnoDesigner and you are set. You can even change the icon and set the label and color for it. This is also the method I use when wanting to plan for a building that I am going to put off grid, just increase the preset size of the building to cover the planned area.

Hope that helps,

Amnis

Looks cool but I have no windows :( - are there C# compilers available for other OS?
