Deleting both swamp.res and swamp2.res fixed the crash, however deleting either one did not, which is a little odd (but I'm probably misunderstanding stuff).

Hmm I made run for different biomes and I crashed a lot more, near this new biome too:/

Was decoding, resizing and encoding in a bulk and trav tool didnt give me any errors. Checked swamp/swamp2 res and it didnt decode images properly so probably that's the problem. Will try using boshaw salem tool for all ground textures now. Will post zipped file when im done. I'll check which files exactly were not decoded correctly by trav tool so at least we can delete corrupted .res files.

Great work, I really appreciate it. Thanks!

salem.zip in first post updated(only contains ground textures i was able to test myself and see if they work). Delete old custom_res from yourUSER/salem/ and use new one from updated salem.zip
^should get no crashes with it

salem2.zip contains resized+encoded from scratch all ground textures(swamp included)
linky link here:
[removed link as it's no longer working/needed]

If possible check Salem2.zip if it still makes you crash at swamp and that other biome.

With salem2 still have to remove savanna*.res :/

EDIT: any progress with savanna.res?

Thanks for your work.
This is abandoned? Hope no. Play the game with a Nvidia 6600GT 128 ram is a bit slow, but play with a netbook is a real pain.

Nope it's not abandoned and stuff in first post works without crashes(just added 2 more tested textures in there too so redownload).

Can't get all textures to work as it seems that encoding .res file (with all avaible player made tools) ain't working correctly for some textures(most of working textures have 32ground tiles in them + 1 pic for minimap and those not working have more ground tile textures and player made tools fail with putting it together).

Is a problem with the java version? I use 6
I try the mod now and check myself.
Edit: For now work perfect.
The most awesome part for me was NOT the fps gain. Is about my video card, GPU Z show me 83 Celsius if I play, ambient temperature 32 C., in normal circumstances this mean 61 to 63 for the GPU.
If I use the low res. mod the temperature drop to 70 - 73 while I m in the game. And thats good news for someone that already burn 2 GPUs!
Thanks.
