Grind for bell in general is pretty slow at first I'll give you that. But after the rough start you start progressing exponentially, and paying upkeep becomes no longer your biggest problem in game.

As far as I can tell, it adds more room in the bell to offset the increased daily cost, so it stays stable at 15 days when full
