thanks, I'll keep it in mind for future issues. Once upon a time that was my rote answer (delete Salem/bin/ and try again). From now on that will become my default answer again :)
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I understand the reluctance to offer that as a first solution, as I am reluctant to use it until desperate. I don't care to have my settings vanish and have to be rebuilt, although in this case most were not a problem.

also, if you only delete Salem/bin (not the entire Salem directory), your settings will be remembered.

I deleted everything (/Salem and .salem) and re-downloaded both the vanilla and your client, and my settings were preserved. Are some saved server-side?

i was talking about UI settings (windows location etc).

Some settings are saved server-side (most noticeably, hotbars)
others are saved in Salem/ (windows.conf and radar.xml, mainly)
.salem is only for caching resource files
and the rest of the settings (custom client's) are saved in the window registry, so yes: they will be preserved.

Good to know, I will not feel leery about deleting if there is another China-related issue.
Cheers!

I keep getting this lately - never been a problem before.

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Comparison method violates its general contract!

Mainly when butchering animals, but this time i was working a cotton cleaner. Only (at least mostly) happens when i have inventory auto-sorting turned on, by gobble value iirc).

I've gone through a few radar config options and butterflies still don't show up on the radar. What's up with that?

not sure, for me they're showing.
Their corresponding line is <marker pattern="gfx/kritter/butterfly/.+" show="true" showicon="true" text="Butterfly" />
Note that the first matching line will be chosen when deciding whether or not something is visible on the minimap. So if you have two entries for butterflies, only the first one counts.

I'll simply delete the files and reinstall them to see if that'll work.
