honeymilk, this would be the bat with the arguments thrown in. make sure to put it in ~/Salem/bin

Code: Select all
start "" java -jar lsalem.jar -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -U http://game.salemthegame.com/res/ game.salemthegame.com
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Trying to read back on 'when' this occured. Can you provide a quick review?

Does the game fail to load at all or just when you try to log in to your last toon?

Assume you have already added the exception on the security tab of Java, etc..

[There were a handful of known memory leaks in the 'old world'... I don't know if they were ever fixed. Windmills were one...etc.]

Are you using a VPN client? Is Citrix running in the background?

Are you using a desktop/laptop/Virtual Machine... and how much memory do you have? What's your page file?

It started about a week ago, in the beginning it took 2-3 hours before the big lag spikes and the heap space error happened. I uninstalled the 32 bit java 8.66 version and installed java 7.79 64 bit as that was the fix of a memory issue a few months ago. Nothing changed, still took 2-3 hours before the crash. Tried all java versions since then.

Windows did an automatic upgrade(not updates, but an actual upgrade) to windows around this time, I have already used system recovery to go back to before the crashes started, no change. Its a 'clean' PC that was factory reset a month or so ago so not any unnecessary background programs. Done a temp file cleanup and been running CCleaner in case it was a memory issue with the actual computer. Still no change.
I have tried .bat file to give java more memory. I've also tried this through java control panel after some google searching. Still nothing.

I can open and log in without any issues on any client. In about a weeks time its gone from crashing every 2-3 hours to every 1-5 minutes. Maybe 10 minutes if I am lucky, the more I do ingame, the quicker it happens. it doesnt matter where in the game I am, it happens. Even in a mine without much room just chipping rubble all by my lonesome.

I am not using a VPN client and do not have citrix running.
I am honestly not sure what you mean by page file, I do not own knowledge about a PC at all so I'll copy it all and hopefully thats what you meant

Its a desktop:
GPU: GeForce GTX 770
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 16 GB RAM (15.94 GB usable)
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

It's windows 10, you gotta uninstall that and everything will be fine! :D
Well, seriously, I would not be surprised if it has something to do with windwos 10, but it's probably not that.

Just to make sure, I know, asking the dumb questions:
- Do you have some free space on you hard drive?
- Could it be that it is caused by a badly written virus or malware or else? (use malewarebytes anti maleware to scan your PC)
- As for the 64 bit java, did you uninstall the old one before? You may very well have several java versions on you machine. Check the path in the environment variables.
Need something? Here is my Shop (Including some useful info for new/returning players at the bottom of the first post)

I said the same thing, thinking I've had nothing but BS since windows 10. But windows 8 was worse and I dont have a downgrade to windows 7 like you were suppose to get with the free windows 10, so I cant try >.>
Its a custom built computer by a software engineer(Normally I would ask him for help, but thats a busy profession) so I dont have the sticker with the product key to reinstall windows with a download link or usb/cd either. But on a serious note, I ran Salem just fine for a few weeks before it happened with 32bit java 8 and windows 10. Only thing that changed in this time period is a windows upgrade which I have already downgraded by a system restore thingie where everything, even files rolled back to the date.

I have plenty of free space.
No virus or malware, already scanned for it.
Yes, I uninstalled the old java first. I did a complete clean install every time.
All driver is up to date, I also did a clean install of GPU driver, salem. Basically anything I could think of that might cause it.

For the record... I really do feel sad that you are putting in this much effort to play but cannot. I asked a few people I know and nobody had a concrete answer on how to fix it either.

Thank you for trying though, I appreciate it.
But its not all bad, learned a few things about all this that might help in the future.

In the meantime I'm going to factory reset the computer, worth a shot.

bah it's frustrating, but I still have no clue. i suppose it might be caused by some rogue resource file, but cleaning your cache (temp files) should at least have solved that for the default client.
