Access a Kiln from a distance

There is a bug that allows you to leave the kiln window open and access it from a distance.

Is whether or not you are next to a container and should be accessing it left up to the client? Anyone know if this is true for other containers? Could one mod the client to allow you to wander around with a cupboard open?
