Same here.

Same computer & internet as I played Salem before last patch, tried different Java versions without success.

I'm gonna do a fresh Windows install tomorrow to check out if it solves anything

After hours and hours of searching, re-installing and whatnot, I finally found a way to get past the black loading screen and get my way into Boston.

Here's how I did it:

1. Right click the Salem shortcut on your Desktop & go to properties
2. Enable Compatibility Mode on Windows XP service pack 3

3. Start Salem (& hope its fixed)

I think this depends of the version of Windows 7, Home Edition doesn't have windows XP emulation possibility.

When I right click on Windows 7 the second thing in the menu is "troubleshoot compatability"
can you make sword in box light sword so sword come out when opened? then if sword is back after sword, use light saber on box, and saber will be boxed after sword is out. - Battlebug (Sw:tor forums pre-wipe)

I'm pretty sure that compatibility modes are available in all versions of Windows. It's been a part of the software since Win98 if I recall right.
