I've described the problem here.

There were a few other things Oracle has changed around with u45 as well, among others this. (That was the single largest problem. I had to spend a whole day of disassembling their JNLP client by hand to find out. :P)

I hate to bump an old thread but as a very new player on this game, I downloaded the game and java and couldn't initially connect.

This was exactly the problem, and adjusting Java back to Medium allowed me to decide which apps I would let run, in which let me prompt this game to run, etc.
