Did a search cant find anything.

Wiki says 10l brainy water per hide

I put four buckets of water, four brains, four skins in tub and always need to add another brain? One two or three of the hides wont tan without the extra brain.

put the limed hides in then x4 buckets of tanning fluid (10L each @ 5%). Should work fine.

i think i recall a bug with rounding errors.

make sure you add the brains to the buckets of water (10L each), and then add these buckets of tanning fluid to the tub.

@droj You cant put hides in until fluid is in there?

@Kandarin Always put in four buckets of water with brains already in them, one brain per bucket then dump four buckets in tub then put in hides

I always put hides in first unless something's changed.

You can do it in any order unless something was changed. Kandarim is correct with the rounding error, though, and it's best to make the tanning fluid first as this will always work. (Yes, definitely a bug. The game should have enough tolerance that rounding errors don't cause these issues.)

Okay. I will walk you thru this.
I put four hides five buckets of water one piece of lime and four brains in my inventory.
I put lime in bucket one, and craft limed hides.
i put one brain in each of the remaining four buckets.
I put four buckets full of brained water in tub.
I add four hides.
I come back later and find at least one hide, and last time, three hides, not tanned.
I add one more brain to tub and all hides click over.
So yes I always put fluid in first.

Put the hides in first, and then the brain water. This is how I've always done it, and how I will continue to do it, to avoid the problem that you think is a bug.

Fluid concentrations seem to decrease whenever the fluid is "used". When making limed hides, you can see the concentration of Milk of Lime drop after each use. Similarly, taking water into a bucket and pouring it back into the container reduces the concentration.

If you use 50L of tanning fluid on 4 hides, the remaining 10L may not be useable for tanning in the next batch.

The workaround to this is, as was stated, to put the hides in before the tanning fluid. As soon as fluid of sufficient concentration is available, all hides start tanning simultaneously. If you put the hides in second, then if there was a time delay one of the hides will finish first and "use" some of the tanning fluid, consuming 10L and subtly reducing its concentration to something below 5.00% which still displays as 5%.
