Unable to connect

Postby Luka » Thu Aug 23, 2012 7:09 pm

Hi I have problem that I cant acces any page from http://plymouth.seatribe.se (I just get server not found) for that reason I probably cant run a game.
When I try to run it I just get this error:

Code: Select all
<jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="http://plymouth.seatribe.se/java/" href="salem.jnlp">
  <information>
    <title>Salem</title>

    <icon href="icon.gif"/>
    <shortcut online="false">

      <menu submenu="Salem"/>
    </shortcut>
  </information>

  </security>
  <resources>
    <java version="1.6+" max-heap-size="512M"/>
    <j2se version="1.6+" max-heap-size="512M"/>
    <jar href="salem.jar"/>
    <property name="haven.errorurl" value="http://plymouth.seatribe.se/java/error"/>
    <property name="haven.defserv" value="plymouth.seatribe.se"/>
    <property name="haven.resurl" value="http://plymouth.seatribe.se/res/"/>
    <property name="haven.storeurl" value="http://services.paradoxplaza.com/adam/storelette/salem"/>

    <extension name="jogl" href="http://plymouth.seatribe.se/java/jogl/jogl.jnlp"/>
  </resources>
  <application-desc/>
</jnlp>

I try to run it from my second system and it ended same way

Edit: also tryed to turn off antivirus/firewall
Edit2: Confirmed association betwen unable too connect on plymouth.seatribe.se website and joining game. Shortly the site let me to acces it and game log in. After 5 minute I get dissconected from game and wasnt able to acces website again.

Since you tried disabling the antivirus and firewall (in a few cases, simply having them installed is enough to cause problems; disabling isn't enough--don't uninstall unless you want to switch, though) and you said you could connect temporarily, I'd look at your internet service provider. They may be having issues or you may be trying to connect through a network that is attempting to block some traffic.

What you pasted isn't the error itself, just the file that generated the error. You should have a second tab labeled "error". That's the code that we need to help diagnose a problem.

If you feel up to it, a couple of things to try on your end: Instead of trying to "access a page" (no pages likely exist on that site, are hidden from public view, or some other possibility) to see if you can connect to a particular domain, use ping or tracert. If you're on windows, open a command prompt (Start>Run -- enter cmd, click OK). At the prompt, just type the command(s):

ping <server name or IP address>

OR

tracert <server name or IP address>

After a few moments, you'll get some information. Ping simply provides the network latency in milliseconds. Tracert will give you each server hit on the route between the two locations.

Ping:

Code: Select all
Pinging plymouth.seatribe.se [194.237.239.121] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 194.237.239.121: bytes=32 time=168ms TTL=38
Reply from 194.237.239.121: bytes=32 time=171ms TTL=38
Reply from 194.237.239.121: bytes=32 time=167ms TTL=38
Reply from 194.237.239.121: bytes=32 time=171ms TTL=38

Ping statistics for 194.237.239.121:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 167ms, Maximum = 171ms, Average = 169ms

An example of tracert can be seen on the Wikipedia traceroute article near the top

If you can connect to the server, either one of these should provide you with information about the connection. What you're looking for is your computer seeing the domain and server. If you can't, neither of these will provide anything, either.

I was for like 2 hours online in salem and had running ping on background it was okay -> Reply from 194.237.239.121: bajty=32 čas=50ms TTL=49
then game crash and I wasnt able to log into game so I interupt ping (with was still without problem working) and try it again and I get message that host plymouth.seatribe.se was unable to find. Then I try to ping directly 194.237.239.121 and it work. So possibly DNS problem?

That's not the error, though; just the JNLP file. Please post the Exception tab(s) instead.

Re: Unable to connect

Thanks for following up with the exceptions. Looks like there's some sort of communication error in there. Try clearing your cache and reloading the client. This might do it, but it might not.

If you can still hit the Seatribe server, it's not likely ISP or network related. That limits it to Java or some other software on your computer. If you were connecting successfully, it's not likely Java (possible, but not likely) or your security software (unless settings got changed at some point). It's something easy to try.

It's quite weird that Java wouldn't be able to resolve the name in DNS when ping could, though...
