I built a second town bell as mayor of my first one, after which I dropped mayor of the first town bell. The second town bell will not allow me to become mayor of it. I guess I just lost 2500s and 5 bars from a bug.

From what I've read on this, my guess is that it's the same bug as other people have experienced when the mayor dies and nobody else can claim the position. I would also guess that if you would have dropped mayorship before building the second town, things should have worked right. If I read this correctly, you weren't available to become mayor when the town bell was completed (were already a mayor of a town), so the same situation occurred.

It's sort of a... feature? It's designed to prevent raiders from stealing charters and using or selling them.

Get it back how? You won't get it as a handout from the devs...

Get it back as in being able to claim it.

Did you just renounce mayorship, or did you also leave the town you were in? You can't be a member of two towns at once, so if you didn't leave town it's obvious why this failed.

Yes. You may mayor and belong to 0nly one town at a time. You can however invite someone else into said town, and give them effective rights as a mayor, and then go back to being the actual mayor of the first town. Presumably you do this with an alt, and boom. You can mayor/control two towns at once.
